It took us 2 hours from dropping off the car to the transport getting into LAX airport. Not the best signposted, drop off at other end of airport added on at another hour so that’s 3 before even checking in. We stayed at Redondo Beach from there to Hollywood took over 2 hours. Unless you are very lucky with the traffic I’d not be risking going very far.

It seems as though the whole LAX airport thing is very time consuming. Given all of the advice we’ve had, we won’t go anywhere on travel home day. We’ll just head to the airport nice and early.

Erm yes, Shutters is a tad over budget 😩. I’ve been looking for accommodation again and I have a couple of options that might work.
I hope SM works out for you as I really think it will be the best base for what you want to do - plus I don’t know how your worked out how long it will take to drive the final 100 or so miles through Greater LA to SM pier - but if it’s from an online search/Sat Nav then double it and add an hour for good luck ! Otherwise post an itinerary on the West Coast and California part of the Dibb and I am sure there will be a Dibber that has driven it and give you a more realistic time frame (a lot is very much down to time of day and day of the week) -LA traffic is rarely kind but it unpredictable at best

Thank you, I’m still hoping to find accommodation that suits us in SM. Haha, that’s exactly what I did regarding the travel time from San Bernardino to SM - google maps shows just short of 1 1/2 hours and I’ve allowed 4 hours. It’s a Wednesday morning, we’ll be leaving around 8am and hoping for a light traffic day!

Yeah tail end of rush hour but atleast it’s not Monday Morning or Friday Afternoon - travel to and from LAX to Victorville is around 3 hrs but can be done in 2 so think you should be under 4 comfortably 🤞then have a wonderful afternoon seeing the LA sights and beach 👍

PS I don’t know where you are staying in SAN B but if you are near Redlands there is a great Italian restaurant walked Romano’s. Not fancy but great Italian food some of the best pizza (they are HUGE) and pasta around

Edited at 08:03 PM.

Hi Lynda

Not long to go now. How exciting!

Check out The Tangerine in Burbank. It was recommended to us on here. Nice area, parking is free, breakfast pastries included in the price and Warner Brothers studio tour is in walking distance. Think it took us just over 5 minutes. Griffiths Observatory and the pub Walt Disney used to go to (The Tam O'Shanter) are a short drive away. Photos in trip report and on IG if that helps.

Agree with others, leave plenty of time to get to the airport! LA traffic is something else.

How about stopping off in Burbank, see the walk of fame, do Griffiths Park Obs and Walts carousel, (only operates at weekends - it was shuttered when we last went! ).
Nice enough hotels around Burbank and Glendale and a tad cheaper. Good restaurants in Burbank Town Centre.

Warner Bros tour will take about 3 hours so look at their website to see if it interests you.
Drive to SM in the early morning, quick walk up to the route 66 sign on the pier then dash to the airport, only thing is it'll be really quiet first thing so not the same atmosphere as an evening walk. We stayed a few blocks back at the doubletree suites which was amongst the cheapest mainstream hotel in the area but they have a golf buggy shuttle to the pier where we ate at Bubba Gumps!
Plenty of trip reports to browse if you have a spare few hours, (use the index page, the main page is so cluttered with day by day reports)
I'd want to drop off the car by 11 at the latest. Check out google maps around the time you'll be there and look at all the pretty (dark red) colours!

we have 48 hours in LA next month (assuming it doesnt all get cancelled) so watching this thread carefully

i was looking at going to a TV show taping (in particular, lights out with david spade or tosh.0) but they arent filming while we're there, and as we are there friday/saturday, there isnt much else of interest. so. i'm thinking of going to venice beach and finding a good dispensary, then seeing what happens

cc/lightsouttickets (link takes you to a site where theres a bunch of other shows)

also, dearlydepartedtours was another possible option, but im not sure we will have time

what, like this one you mean?

Didn't much like the vibe of Venice by night, quiet enough during the day, though a lot of the many homeless try to survive along this stretch
