Family Holiday in Europe
Hi all. Just returned from latest Orlando trip and feeling grumpy and cold! I'm trying to cheer myself up by thinking about planning our next holiday, but finding myself bereft of ideas. I have a 14 year old DD and 12 year old DS who have very different ideas of what makes a good holiday. That's why Florida is always a hit - DD likes nature and DS likes gaming and theme parks.
Our previous holidays to Europe have been budget package deals, and no-one happy with them. DD needs time for peace and quiet and to chill out (she has narcolepsy and needs frequent sleeps, and tires easily). DS is a typical 12 year old boy, with boundless energy. None of us are interested in beach holidays. We live on the coast, and the beach is part of our daily life anyway. DH and I would like to avoid cattle class on flights, and 3 bedrooms for the accommodation. I know lots of Dibbers are well travelled, and I would love to hear some recommendations! Thanks . |

We went to Centreparcs in the Netherlands last year. We stayed at De Kempervennen. It has plenty of activities available but lots of opportunity for nature and relaxation. It’s really close to Efteling theme park which we all loved. It was quite a bit cheaper than UK centreparcs too.

We haven’t been, but have you looked at the Lakes in Italy? It looks beautiful and calming but there are also theme parks in the area to visit. Plus a very good standard of accommodation.

We love Efteling in Holland. You can stay on site and you get entry into the theme park while you stay there.
We've also stayed at centre Parcs in Holland and like Het Heijerbos (No sure of the spelling) It has a jungle dome which we loved. It also has a sunken city outdoor swimming pool where you can snorkel to see real fish. The fish are in an aquarium below the water so you're not swimming with the fish in the water with you. |

Another Holland option but duinrell.
There are a number of eurocamp.parks in France which have PGL affiliated with them. One we went to was st avit loisirs in the Dordogne. Plenty to see around and about if you wish to go out, pool and WiFi and good vans if you wanted to stay in. Excellent active clubs including PGL for your son. There is good river canoeing and a high ropes course relatively nearby. Loads of kids around to just run free with if he prefers. That sort of thing has served us well over a number of years as we have an age gap with our kids so the youngest needs something that can be active but independent. |

Unfortunately, we cannot use any kids activity clubs. Both of our kids are autistic, and will not stay with strangers. Eurocamp is definitely something I will look into though. Thanks!

I agree Dunirell in Holland is a great little park, ideally situated to explore Holland.
I just commented on the other holiday thread about Switzerland being an amazing destination |
