Question for builders

We’re having an extension built on the back of the house that will extend the current kitchen diner. We’re having the new window and doors surveyed by a window company on 28.7 and our builder has said today that he won’t be knocking through to the kitchen until the window and door have been fitted. That could be weeks away.
We thought that they would knock through once the new roof is on the extension and block up the window and door somehow.
Are we being naive?

We had our window moved higher by the builders bricking up part of the original window. It was then measured by the window company and as we had to wait for it to be made up, the builders just put up a thick board to make the house secure until the window was fitted. All the building work was completed about 3 weeks before the window was ready and this was just fitted by the window company. The builders had finished and gone. Your building work will take a while if you have to wait for the door and window first.

Mine was knocked through before the window a d doors were in.

Depending on where you live it could be months and months for new door and windows.

We reused ours patios doors and back door but the builder boarded the windows when he knocked through.

Thanks for all replies, really useful to know. It seems strange that he wants to do it that way as we already know the window/door could take weeks to fit.

Our builder knocked through on Monday and boarded up, so it is possible

if the builder does knock through and boards up the openings will your house be secure?

and if somebody gained entry to your property thorough a boarded up window would your insurance pay for any loss?
