Contractor damage to driveway
Would love some advice.
We have a repair contract with Currys for our oven which also includes an annual oven clean. We arranged this with Currys and last week the contractor came out and did a great job and the oven looks brand new. However after they left we noticed a large oil/grease stain on our brand new laid driveway and all the oven shelf scrapings spread across. We took photos and tried to clean. We also called the driveway company who took a look and said it will require a new coating of bitumen to cover it. We emailed back to Currys on the same email they had be contacting us with, so I know its monitored as they were replying before within a day, with a complaint and photos. I havent heard anything back. 2 years ago we had a sofa delivered by Next and the delivery contractor hit and damaged a wall. Next were great and offered to repair. The contract was with Currys so I also expect them to accept responsibility for damaged cause by contractors they send out. What should I do next and whats my legal position on the damage caused?

Good luck with Curry’s. Wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole. Never want to know you once you’ve parted with your money.

My advice would be to put your complaint in writing with photos (recorded delivery) - stating you hold Curry’s responsible, what it will take to satisfy your complaint and state you give them 14 days to respond.
If no response follow the advice from Citizens Advice regarding Money Claim. citizensadvice.uk/la...a-small-claim/ Edited at 02:33 PM. |

Currys are 100% responsible and as people have said above, put as much evidence together as possible and raise a formal complaint with Currys. Please check their complaints policy and follow it - they are likely to deal with proper complaints more seriously if that makes any sense.
Hope they sort it out for you as repairing patios/driveways can be expensive |

As Omega has said above, put as much evidence and always communicate in writing. Refer to the previous unanswered email/call and put a deadline on it.
Curry's should deal with this as that is who your contract is with, and they can do a sub recovery against the oven cleaner themselves if they wish to.

Have you tried Ashalt Restorer (Amazon) or a degreaser (Screwfix). Check first that they can be used but I’ve even heard of people using Coke, washing up liquid and cat litter to remove oil / grease on tarmac.

Had trouble with Curry’s at the start of the pandemic. Paid to have a washing machine installed and old one taken away. Three months later noticed a problem with an adjacent wall and found they had cross threaded the washer and the machine had been slowly leaking since. The only way we got any action from them over the repair was to send an email to the head office as the damage control team kept ignoring our emails.
