Cardiff council had been criticised for not having a tree up in time for the Christmas lights switch-on as it was being shipped from China.

Costing £30,000 over a three year lease from UK-based company MK Illuminations, the structure arrived in Wales with all the golden baubles pre-attached.

But the authority says the tree will save the tax payer £5,000 a year compared to previous "tree installations".

They scrapped it after 1 year but still had to pay the lease!

They admitted they thought it was 40m but instead ordered a 40ft one - and these idiots run the Council. God help us all.

You couldnt make it up! It looks like a load of popcorn

Who confuses 40ft with 40m hope it wasn't the building planners who ordered this.

I love the tree in Liverpool too.

The Christmas light displays around the city are fantastic, this year. The musical light show in Church Alley is just lovely.

Edinburgh receives a tree from Norway each Christmas but for the last few years (not sure how many) the tree is not sent from Norway.

To save the carbon footprint it was decided to source the tree in the UK (the Norwegians pay for it). Maybe this is the case also for the tree in London and the tree could actually be home grown.

You should see the ridiculous alternative to a tree in the town near where I work.
Photo coming up!

The council spent 4K on it apparently. 🤷
