Toddler Trials sponsored by Timmies - Canada 2018 Day 5 Niagara Falls, Handbags & Shoes!

Toddler Trials sponsored by Timmies - Canada 2018
Day 5 Niagara Falls, handbags & shoes!

I’m Emily, my husband is Gary and this was our first overseas holiday with our 17 month Libby. We visited family near Toronto and spent a few days in Montreal too.

I had a lie in this morning after our late night which was lovely and we left at 10.10.

It was cooler today, the car said 17 so we put a cardigan on Libby. She’d only been up 3 hours when we set off but she seemed tired so we gave her a dummy and her bunny, her nap essentials!

We went to get gas and obv went through the Timmies drive through. Gary had some serious accent issues here, he decided to get the breakfast croissant but how we say croissant is very different from how the Canadians do, so the guy had no idea what we were trying to order ! The drive through speaker thing wasn’t helping. We eventually got him to understand and I ordered a chocolate muffin. No accent problems with my muffin thank goodness.

Libby fell asleep as soon as we joined the highway and slept the whole way to Niagara Falls. I was selfishly very pleased about this as it meant no sharing my muffin with her .

It took us an hour to get there. We parked at the Skylon Tower, not in the official carpark but a bit of gravelled ground next to it which was manned. We paid $5 as we went in but by the time we’d gotten the buggy out and Libby in etc, we realised they’d changed the sign to $10! Supply and demand eh! So that was good timing. There was an attendant here directing people into spaces and he had a guy across from us reverse park then come back out at least 8 times. It was quite funny to watch but I think the poor guy was getting mad.

We walked through the arcade type place under the Skylon Tower. It’s like a big arcade inside, we only went in because I needed the loo though.

Where we going?

After a loo stop we headed down towards the falls. Libby was absolutely fascinated. I think she wanted to go in for a swim!

She was very anti photograph today

We headed along to the Welcome Centre and bought a few bits including a Christmas tree decoration and some postcards. I’m old fashioned and love a postcard as do my Mum and Nana. We sat in the covered courtyard bit and let Libby have some Lunchables that I’d brought with us. I wrote the postcards quickly and posted them too. Gary and I decided we weren’t starving so thought we’d walk up to Hard Rock Café for our lunch. Gary collects pins and even though he already had one from here, he wanted another. A friend had also asked us to get her a hurricane glass.

We walked up towards Clifton hill and turned right for Hard Rock. Libby was waving to people all the way along.

Stop taking my picture!

We had to go through the casino to find the service lift to get to the second floor of Hard Rock which was a bit strange.

We were seated and the waitress said she wasn’t sure if they had any high chairs left. She eventually found one thank goodness. Libby was getting tired and was quite restless so not behaving well at all!

I had a quesadilla and Gary ordered some kind of grilled sandwich. Sorry I don’t have notes, Libby wasn’t being cooperative.

I also got a cocktail in a keepsake hurricane glass since we needed it for my friend anyway , I think it was a Bahama Mama.

It wasn’t a peaceful lunch as meals with a toddler go, she kept flinging things away but we managed to fill our bellies and I enjoyed my cocktail.
A wedding party came in while we were eating, the bride was in a proper dress. They didn’t seem to have booked or anything, they’d just wandered in so it was a bit strange. Cool wedding meal though!

We settled the bill and left, down in the service elevator and all the way round again. We exchanged the receipt for a clean hurricane glass and Gary got himself a pin. I nipped into Starbucks next door and got a Christmas tree mug decoration. I don’t collect the big mugs (although I’d like too!) because I can’t justify suitcase space/weight every time we go somewhere. I would definitely become obsessed!

We walked back to car through the park at the other side of the road to the Falls. It was much quieter and we let Libby run around a bit. We got back to the car about 2.40pm. Our next stop was the Niagara Outlets. We hadn’t been here on previous trips but a friend had recommended them and they were on the way home so why not?

Good thing about parking at the bottom of a big tower is it's easy to find your way back!

Libby fell asleep just as we got there but we managed to get her out of the car and in to her buggy and she slept for 40 mins. This NEVER happens so felt like a massive parenting win .

I spent all of nap time in Kate Spade, deliberating over handbags and purses. I eventually emerged with 2 handbags and a purse, $248.78. I was very pleased with myself, Gary wasn’t quite so amused at how long I’d been in there though .

Now she was awake, we got Libby out and let her have a play in the playground while we took turns in some shops. It was really warm so I got us a frozen lemonade in Timmies.

We then hit Vans and got 2 pairs for Libby, Nike (I think Gary got some trainers, Libby definitely did) and UGG. We got these for Libby for less than £30 which I thought was a total bargain! Kind of guessed what size she would be come the winter but I think we nailed it.

New shoes!

I then went in to Michael Kors and got a new black work bag. Yes another handbag. Not even ashamed .

Gary went in to a shop at one point and I was sitting on a big seat while Libby played around me. She tripped over the pram and fell and banged her eye, which I felt awful about! Despite 2 decent naps (more than she usually has) she was still really sleepy .

No room for the baby...
Her wee banged eye

We decided to call it a day but wanted to get dinner before heading home. There wasn’t really anything we wanted in the food court that jumped out and we were tired and indecisive so we ended up in McDonalds just across the car park!

It was just after 6pm and didn’t look that busy, but Gary had to wait on our order for 10/15 minutes. Libby used my tangle teezer to brush her bunny’s fur while we waited.

Just incase you've never seen a McDonalds before! Note the hash browns, they do all day breakfasts over there!
Libby and I both had happy meals and they came with a yoghurt tube.

The buggy was totally overloaded with shopping bags, so Gary carried Libby back to the car while I tried to negotiate the kerbs and roads with everything else.

Libby fell asleep in the car on the way home…uh oh!

Danger Nap!

We got back just before 7.30 after a busy but exciting day.

Libby didn’t go to sleep until 9.20 because of her car danger nap . Gary and I weren't far behind her!

Thanks for commenting all . I think holiday tiredness was catching up with her! We were so out of her normal routine and environment though, so she did so well 90% off the time xx

Lovely day Emily - I couldn’t get over how many arcade type places there were when I went many moons ago.

Didn’t know about the outlets and now feel like I missed out 🤣 but excellent haul! Xx
