Had a lovely day trip to Brugge yesterday

On a whim back in the summer, a friend and I booked the Euro Tunnel to go on a day trip to Brugge to see the Christmas markets dragging both our mum’s with us.
We left at 6.30 yesterday morning and made it to Folkestone with plenty of time for our 8.50 train. Unfortunately it was delayed by 40 mins but after getting out at Calais it was only a 1 hour and 20 min drive to Brugge arriving at 12.30pm CET.
Found an underground parking garage really easily in the centre which was only €5.80 for the time we were there!
The main square was a short walk away where the market was on.
We were starving by this point so found a restaurant with outdoor seating in the square. As you can see it was a gloriously sunny day, a tad cold but we wrapped up well.
Once done we had a look round the stalls. I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t too impressed, it wasn’t very big at all not like the ones in Berlin. We weren’t sure whether we had found the right one but couldn’t see any other information online so assumed this must be it. I did find a lovely hand painted Christmas bauble and the obligatory magnet. Brugge, however is a beautiful city and we loved just strolling down the cobbled streets popping in and out of the various lace, chocolate and Christmas shops.
Talking of chocolate, I’m not gonna lie I bought loads . I was in sugar heaven
We also couldn’t leave before trying a famous Belgium waffle from the House of Waffles. I wish I had taken a photo, it was huge!
We got back to the car at around 5 then made the journey back to Calais, even with a bit of traffic we checked in at 6.20 for our 7.20pm train.
With the hour gained on the way back I walked into the house at 8.45pm, completely shattered after doing all the driving but having had a lovely day. I’m now feeling very festive!
Anyone living within 2 hours of Folkestone I would highly recommend doing a day trip there, even if it’s not for the Christmas markets as it’s such a beautiful city.

We weren't that impressed with the market there either, however I just love the city (town?) and there are so many other things to see.

Looks lovely
I went to Brugge on a school holiday many years ago and I have some photos somewhere of myself and some friends outside those buildings.

Brugges is one of my ports on my Disney cruise in September 2020. Im planning to do a walking tour, and then just go to some places on my own. What would suggest are must do in Brugges?
