Stampeding to Calgary - a bit late 21st August Johnston Canyon and shopping!

***Photos below ****

Well after yesterday how could we top our bear sighting? It did seem quite a bit clearer this morning so after a quick breakfast of toast and juice we headed out early to Johnston Canyon. It was quite nippy and the car actually pinged us to say it was 39f, which is about 3.9c. I think we were there just after 9 and got a space in the main carpark and headed in. I must admit if I had known what I was in for I would have had second thoughts about putting it on the “to do” list! It is beautiful and I loved the canyon and forest however the walkways were really difficult for me, especially where they had gaps, moved or turned into metal gratings that you could see through! My heart rate was through the roof and not just because I’m unfit or the altitude! On the way up it wasn’t too busy and we went straight up to the upper falls, however on the way down it was a lot busier and people just pushed through, actually physically pushing people including me! Dh reckons that people who come from very busy countries/cities have a different idea of personal space from us. Me I think they were just rude – seriously, I was standing at the side right tight in and 2 men were talking as they tried to get past me and stayed side by side, where did they think I was going to go, over the edge? Anyway rant over, sorry and here are the photos

To calm me down dh sent me into the shop for a danish and hot chocolate before we headed into Banff for lunch and shopping Dd wanted some new leggings and a top from Lulu Lemon and I have always liked her stuff from there so I chose some leggings and a top, an excuse to get fit! I also got a new top from Roots using the excuse I needed something warmer for the Glacier tomorrow! We also chose some maple taffy for my niece and nephew, Rocky Mountain soap for dsil, and a scarf for dmil. Dh got a couple of t-shirts in Cool as a Moose as he reckoned that was the closest he was going to get to seeing one!
The sky was blue and it was the clearest it has been over the 2 weeks.

We picked up some sandwiches at Nester and then headed back up Tunnel Mountain to eat them. On the way back we drove up to the Hoo doos and walked round to the red chairs and dh got some clearer pictures, although I didn't bother

Back at the hotel I went for a quick swim, unfortunately there were a few too many kids throwing balls around so I gave up and went in the hot tub, which was fine until a mum bought her little ones in with her as the pool was too cold for them. The sign said no under 2’s and under 3’s had to have swim nappies on – neither child did and one of them was definitely under 2 – so I got out! Second rant of the day!

We went and got another A&W burger for tea and read before having an early night ready for the Ice tomorrow!

I can’t understand people and their manners, really annoys me too.

It’s a lovely place the canyon but them walkways do test the nerves a bit, well done for sticking with it, it’s worth it for the falls

Well done you on getting to the Upoer Falls, but it’s a shame some people spoil things. Like you, I came to the assumption that some people are just plain rude!

Hopefully your retail therapy this afternoon helped.
