Curious how you were getting on? All resolved?

BBC News - Food writer Jack Monroe 'loses £5,000 in phone-number hijack'
bbc/news/technology-50043230

I read this article today, and it reminded me again I wanted to do something to stop this happening to me.

I cannot remember what the thing is you have to do to prevent it happening to you, does anybody else know ?

You need a SIM port block put in place. Not sure if UK suppliers do it though like they do in the US.

Thank you. Is this a technical bit of kit, or is it just that I have to ask them not to port it. What happens if I decide I do want to move it at some point in the future?

It's a restriction the provider puts on your account. Most US providers have a setting when you log into your account. It then means it cannot be released without additional security checks.

Thankfully no money was stolen. I raised a formal complaint with EE who offered a pittance of compensation. So I am raising a complaint with the ombudsman, just waiting for copies of the transcripts before I can do so.

If you manage to find out anything about it can you let us know, meanwhile I will see if BT can put a block on it unless extra info required first is answered.

No dice with Tesco mobile, they don't have that facility. I asked them what they can do and the most they can do is ask an extra question, so I have asked them to do that. But tbh it's not good enough. All they said is "it cannot happen". Mmmm

I have asked them to feed my question up to management. Will see what happens.

I will try the same with BT & report back if I have anything to report.
