The guy at the desk was visibly upset that myself nor my sister in law weren't taking out any extras, including any insurance upgrade. I offered my fairfx card as payment and he tried it 3 times and told me each time that it wasn't accepted, he didn't know why, I didn't why. So I had to hand over a load of cash which was extremely inconvenient.

I was then later emailed by Fairfx to let me know that my card, with thousands of dollars loaded up on it, was LOCKED!
I rang them and they explained that whilst I was trying to pay for my car hire at Alamo, the security number on my Fairfx card had been entered INCORRECTLY 3 times...
Now, we all know with the experience of online shopping, that it's NOT difficult to look at a 3 digit number and enter it on a computer, right?

Another tactic to look out for from the scorned commission seeking Alamo desk person.
You need a Debit/Credit card, a FairFX Card is great but it's a pre loaded card if you run up a bill over the loaded amount how will Alamo get there money back?. These cards are like a USA debit card that's why Alamo say they can not be used.

He never refused it until he had physically entered an incorrect security code 3 times which was AFTER taking the card off me, entering the long number, etc...
So, as far as I could tell, he accepted that as a form of payment.

Hi , Ive been reading this thread and I had already booked online with Alamo so I thought I'd do the Alamo Savetime. I entered the details for my wife and I and its come up with ' Additional Driver ( 9.99 per day) even though Ive got the gold package which clearly says Additional Drivers included. Has anybody had this before as I dont want 13 x 9.99 added to my credit card at the end of the holiday. Also I cant seem to print the barcode, has anyone any advice ? Many thanks
