Best Car Hire Company - Miami

Hi there

Wondering if you could share your experiences on car hire from Miami - we have done it before but I can't remember who we used!
We arrive about 9pm if that is any help.

Thanks

Alamo = Skip the counter and pick your own vehicle - Tolling is $19.75 for duration plus tolls.

Avis = Join their preferred program and you can skip the counter - Tolling is $19.75 for duration plus tolls.

----

Dollar = No Dollar Express program unless you book directly & Expensive tolling system @ $52.49 per week

Budget = No FastBreak program for UK customers - Tolling is $19.75 for duration plus tolls

Miami has a lot of cashless tolls so you need the tolling system imo

Sorry but can you just explain what you mean by "tolling"?

And source, we always use Alamo but book through VA/VH. OLCI is great! Skip the counter, straight to the garage!

We used Alamo at Miami last year and hoping to use next year if they drop their prices! Did skip the counter and couldn't believe how quick the process was.

We are booked with Alamo from Miami and have just completed skip the counter. Tolling means you can just drive through the tolls without paying and it will be charged to your rental at the end of your hire period. Think it's called sun pass?

Alot of roads around Miami are toll roads so cost money to drive on. The majority being automated tolls so you don't have the option to stop and pay cash. In the Orlando area, you can either stop at the toll booth and pay in cash or use the automated tolling system which is called Sunpass. The Sunpass system installed in the vehicles to automatically charge to your card and you can drive straight through without stopping. The rental companies charge an admin fee which is usually $19.75 with the exception of a few companies like Dollar and Sixt who charge a lot more, although they include all toll charges.

That's brilliant - thanks so much for all this info. We have never 'skipped the counter' before. I guess it is exactly as it says on the tin - go from checkout to the garage and pick up your car. Do you speak to a human at the car pick up point? !
We hope to leave and go via the US27 to avoid tolls (and not spend any time actually IN Miami) I hated it the last time and have no real desire to return...

The $19. 75 is the max admin fee for Alamo. It is $3.95 per day activated Upto $19.75 plus the toll fees.
I've just returned from driving to and from Miami and only had to use the automated tolls on 3 days out of 25 with Alamo.
Used skip the counter, very fast at airport longest part was choosing which car I wanted in the line😁
