Airport Parking.. BEWARE

Something to remember with airport parking where you hand your keys over to be driven to an offsite car park. Its worth paying the extra.

Just another addition to the horror stories I have heard..

Friends of mine left their car at one of the London airports (can't remember which one) and returned after there holiday to find an Australian driving licence / documents in the glove compartment. After contacting this Australian person who had since returned to his native country they realised that the car had been hired out for the 2 week period they were away. They were on Watch dog (or similar programme) about it at the time. The parking company bought them a new car as compensation

Suddenly the extra cost of a taxi over parking is looking more appealing!

I NEVER use these "meet and greet" services or valet parking having had two brand new cars damaged. Always use self parking and have never had a problem.

This is also applicable to Official airport parking.

For example, now you have to hand over your keys for the Gatwick Summer Special parking which you book through the official website. i thought this is fine. My partner wasn't happy and reset the miles clock and when we picked it up a week later there was 15 miles on the clock.

This is also the same for the Gatwick "Purple" Parking. Only the Gatwick Long stay you park yourself now which is nearly double the price.

Much rather book an overnight stay at a hotel that gives us 15 days free parking. We always note the mileage before leaving car and in 15 years of doing this it has never been moved yet.

Same, Premier Inn offer the Gatwick North long stay which is what we wanted for only a fraction extra than just parking there on its own.. Holiday starts earlier too!

We all have different views on this.
My car is worth £25K and no way am I leaving it where cars come and go and my doors get whacked.
The company I use photograph the entire car and the wheels. The same time as I am doing it!
Plus I have an in car dashcam so I know where its been and where its been parked.

My friend had a vintage Volvo that was immaculate. Trashed by passengers scraping through the gap with cases between him and the next car. Full respray needed.

I though the premier inn use the official Gatwick valet- which drive your car to a different location and they state you can have up to 10 miles extra on the clock on return.

It's run by Vinchi though so they are a large and rep company.
