Mariah Carey Christens Disney Fantasy In New York City

Yesterday, March 1st, superstar Mariah Carey led a star-studded ensemble at the christening ceremony of the latest addition to the Disney Cruise line – the Disney Fantasy. The ceremony took place aboard the ship docked in the world famous New York Harbor. Disney President and CEO Bob Iger was joined by the ships new Godmother, Mariah Carey, Jerry Seinfeld, Neil Patrick Harris, Nick cannon as well as Mickey and friends to welcome the new ship into the Disney family.

The event started with a spectacular show in the Walt Disney Theatre led by Neil Patrick Harris and starring many familiar Disney favorites. Mayor Michael Bloomberg also joined the event to express his pride in welcoming Disney’s latest ship to New York City for the momentous occasion.

Later on in the evening in the grand art deco Atrium of the ship Mariah Carey christened the ship by speaking the familiar words "I christen thee Disney Fantasy. May God bless this ship and all who sail on it". Outside Nick Cannon and Minnie Mouse carried out the famous tradition of breaking a bottle of champagne against the side of the ship completing the ceremony.

Amongst guests aboard the ship to celebrate the maritime event were Ty Pennington from Extreme Makeover Home Edition, ESPN host Erin Andrews and Tim Gunn from Project Runway.

The Disney Fantasy will now make its way to Port Canaveral in Florida from where it will set sail on March 31st for its maiden voyage.
