When we were in Odiaba near the Giant Gundam statue, there are so steps near there that had been converted into a small stage - and a group of 4 young ladies danced and sang a pop song or two.

The crowd of about 40 or more people were 95% men, no kids, and of that 95% most were middle aged men.

I thought it a bit creepy, and all they were doing was doing the dance moves of the song in time with the performers, but was I projecting my Western "values" onto the situation

I must admit, I find this part of Japanese "culture" quite disturbing. They only criminalised owning child pornography about 10 years ago. Even then, the law is weak and disturbingly few cases where someone is found to own such material get to court. Manga and Anime depicting child sexual abuse continue to be legal there.

There's also JK Alley / JK Cafes, where a man can legally pay for the company of a young schoolgirl. Some of these establishments provide 'massage services'.
