I'm sorry to see this kind of thing written - you are missing the point entirely. The Orca are not there to perform - how can you say seeing an orca in such close proximity is boring? Watching their behaviours is what it is about! and how they respond to the trainers. I was there in October and delighted to see the 2 week old calf just swimming with it's mother, that was entertaining enough.

It'll take more than a new show to get me to go back, the place is a shadow of its former self

speaking from 2 points of view here
Myself - having seen Believe a few times, its allways entertaining, just jumping, the show of it all, now i have done my PADI scuba instructor badge and enjoy watching marine life up close, when i go to sea world, i sit down in the shemu stadium and want to see a show, you know, jumping, splashing, jumping with the trainers out of the water, then when the massive orca slides onto the " flat area " and the crowd are in awe of its size, it was great now they have stripped it bare, its not like it was, thus i found it dull, oh and i saw the calf at 9 days old, cute yes, exciting no from my 7yr old DD point she wanted to see the show we saw 2 years ago, we sat in the splash zone to get wet, she " awwwwwwwww'ed " at the calf, she does it for kittens and puppies aswell if we want to see a big fish ( type creature ) swimming around a tank, we pop to the aquatics center and think big |

it was a tragic event that happened, but would the shows be the same without the trainers in the water with the whales? it wouldnt stop me going to seaworld but i would avoid the shamu shows to be honest.

My daughter loves the show, missing the interaction though, as that is mind blowing to watch. saw it again April 10 not as good missing the big whale in the shamu rocks... but still love the park.

I think there are plenty of other things to do at Seaworld apart from see Believe. I saw it for the first time this year in August and with having nothing to compare it to I was awestruck by the size of the whales yes, but I was also left feeling "was that it?".
I must admit it felt a touch anti-climactic to me, the big entrance the crowd give for Shamu, then a couple of jumps later it's all over. I know it can't go on forever but when you see the dolphin show before hand you sort of expect more from it. Don't get me wrong, seeing the whale come out from the holding tank into the show tank for the first time is really crazy giving the size of it. Seaworld was one of the parks I most wanted to visit, I had booked a penguin encounter which was fantastic and I think if I had not done this I would have left feeling slightly disappointed. |

I know there'll be huge disgreements about this, but I think Seaworld has been ruined by the thrill rides. I feel they should make up their minds what type of park it is. I loved the old Seaworld, where the only attractions were the inhabitants.
Loved "Shamu Rocks" but always found "Believe" too sugary, with, or without the trainers. Really enjoyed watching the antics of the birds as they tried to pinch some fish! Sadly, my feelings are torn about it anyway. While I love seeing such magnificent creatures, I'm not comfortable with them being kept in captivity. Don't know if it makes me a hypocrite, but it does make me confused! |

I like Seaworld! Admittedly I remember the "good old days" but am not too upset with the changes.
The shows are good (albeit Believe was sickly sweet & commercialised - it's going to have to evolve with the trainer restrictions) The rides are fun - and not the focus of the day (for a change) the animals are around - manatees, sharks, rays, dolphins & seals all provide good entertainment & interactions (ok not the manatees, but you know what i mean) The carpark is organised & the whole cost is reasonable. I'll be visiting again next year (hopefully with Discovery Cove!) |
