Funding for school equipment

On Friday I had a meeting at DD school to discuss spending some money, decided on gym equipment and asked to see what they currently had at the school, was shocked to see there was practically nothing a few balls, peanut ball and that was it apart from a few benches. Was told that they had to get rid of a lot of the mats etc as they weren’t covid compliant. Am looking at trying to get some funding for some more, we are on school council so will ask them to look at govt funding and will try Children in Need, any other ideas of where to try? The school is a special school -ages 5-19. Where else might there be money lurking waiting to be spent!?!?

They should get a specific PE grant. Our PE department is very well funded from the government grant so I’d be curious why that isn’t the case.

That’s what I thought, I’m going to do some digging and try to find out where money has (if at all) been spent.

They have to report PE premium spends on the website and evidence it. That’s an ofsted requirement.

It’s not part of an academy, it came about as DD is entitled to extra spending and I wanted to be involved on what it was spent on, rather than it go into just the school budget and get swallowed up. Have some nice things for DD on order now, which will obviously be used by others but just trying to get some useful general gym stuff is my aim. Just matting for the school floor so they can do floor work is a start!

It should be on the school website. They are obliged to post how much they received and what it was spent on.
Unless it’s a tiny school they should have received at least £16,000.

Interesting! Got to get on to laptop as the website doesn’t seem to work fully on mobile! Do you know the name of that grant?

If they are like most other schools in the country, they will be finessing the limits of the definition of this grant in order to keep the lights on...
