Just got a very cheap 3 night deal to Venice. €249 each! Going in March so will it be freezing?
Staying in the Ala hotel in San Marco it looks lovely & gets brilliant reviews so we struck a fab deal! Flying with Aer Lingus from Dublin, so any tips on getting into Venice from the airport & whats your top sights not to be missed!

We went by speedboat from the airport and it was amazing.
Our hotel had a jetty to drop us and we got collected from there too.
T Fondaco Dei Tedeschi Is a department store near
The Rialto that offers free rooftop views, you just need to prebook a time.
Love Venice, just wander and enjoy what you discover.

Top tip for Venice is get up early! It gets extremely busy!

Don’t have a coffee sitting down in a cafe unless you want to spend ages there. It’s much cheaper if you do as the locals do and stand at the counter.

Get the airport vaporetto, much cheaper than speedboat transfer and just as amazing,makes you into St Marks Square, takes about 45 mins.

Go to a classical music concert in one of the churches. Ride the Vaperetto route down the grand canal. Get off the beaten track of tourists into the little back lanes.

We were due to go to Venice next week but cancelled . It was very very quite when we went last September, absolutely stunning clear waters but I believe the cruise ships are back and they are what spoil Venice .
Anyway We booked the bus for the airport (€15) and bought the vaporetto travel pass . Take good walking shoes as you are up and down bridges . Go watch the sunset near the church on the bridge . Search out dal Moro , best pasta ever 😍😍 . Take vaperetto 1 and ride the whole of the grand canal . It was a millpond when we went but I’m not sure it will be ever again,
A gondola was €80 and they do expect a tip, pick your place you want to ride from .
Go over to burano , lovely place .
Sit and drink aperol or Prosecco mid afternoon on one of the side street cafes.
Visit st marks square at sunset , stunning .

There is also an app to check the tides , as you can in the photos above see st marks floods and can be quite deep.

We went late 2019 just before Covid hit the world.
We had a great time, saw all the sights, stayed in a hotel overlooking a canal with the gondolas, we had coffee overlooking the Grand Canal and pizza in a restaurant at night with candles on the tables, serenaded by violinists.
It was quite eerily misty when we were there, which we loved and made for excellent photos, we thought!

We did a secret tour at Doge's palace. Other thing I'd recommend is wandering the back streets/beyond the tourist traps. Find a local restaurant that does chichetti (Venice's equivalent to Spain Tapas). They often make their own beer too. Very cheap, and very tasty. Oh, and don't miss your original flight like we did
