Ring doorbell or just the camera?

We’ve just moved into a new house and the doorbell is nice and loud and loud and I don’t really want to replace it with Ring doorbell, but I’d like to be able to see who is at the door and have the two way communication if we’re not in. DH thinks we should still get a battery ring doorbell and stick it on the door, but I don’t know if it’s better to get one if the Ring security cameras and have it angled at the drive. Our front door area dips inwards from the rest of the house, so it’s hard to cover all areas. Though I don’t know if it’s better to have a doorbell at head height to be able to see who is at the door. What have people got set up or recommend?

We have a ring camera and security light and you can communicate through it. Think it was about £200 though so dearer than the doorbell. I do pay £2 (ish) a month subscription to Ring.

We have both. We have the doorbell and the camera's. The camera's are set up upstairs looking down covering our car/driveway and also in the back garden.
We also pay £80 per year subscription for all of ours.

We have both. The doorbell is great for being able to answer from anywhere in the world - the cameras do pick up motion but they're not as good as the doorbell for two-way speaking/there's sometimes a small lag when you get a motion notification and opening it up on the app (someone might've been and gone by the time you do that!).

I would recommend the doorbell with a chime (separate plug in device you can buy to put around the home so you can hear the doorbell go off like a regular doorbell, and don't just get notified via your phone).

We are well into the Ring eco-system and have several of their products including the whole alarm system and door sensors etc, so let me know if there are any Qs I can help with!

We have recently purchased a Ring doorbell and are now thinking about buying some of the cameras too. We have linked ours to the various Echo units around the home so we’re alerted if someone rings the doorbell rather than relying on our phones or purchasing the chime.

never really seen the point of them to be honest

a few mates have them and seem to get notification when someone , usually their mrs or the postie come/goes?... ie/ 99.9% of the time the usual coming & goings

one even had spider on his & it was setting it off all the time ... funny though

the odd time it might be a ne'erdowell i guess... but cant really see why you want to answer your door when you are on holiday?

maybe its just me...

No one rings my door!

Maybe to do with the printed plastic sign I got made that says:-

''No callers, Political Canvassers, Religious People or Salesmen''.

Works a treat!

Plus I can see the door via the CCTV system.

We have two ring cameras and the doorbell and yes just the camera would work, ours also has a siren as well as a light and mic so it’s good for scaring people 😂

We have a security light with camera focused on our cars on the drive and a ring doorbell linked to all our Alexa devices. The devices chime and say “there is somebody at the door”, very handy when DH is in his workshop. I do look if I get notifications when out. Handy to tell people we know when we will be back and to keep an eye on the house when on holiday - I got one when in Mexico to find a man had leaned his bike against my car, scratching it. I did speak to him, he was a policeman in uniform and I let him know I wasn’t happy as the scratch was visible on camera, caused when his bike slipped.

They have helped so many in our community with things like car damage or car break ins.
Ours in the garden in great as we know when our cat comes and goes while we are out as we have one that’s been missing since June so atleast I can keep track of the one that’s still here.
Also we have 3 floors so if I can’t get to the door in time I can tell them through Alexa to wait or just leave a parcel on the doorstep.
Wouldn’t be without it.
