Ear Wax !
What a lovely subject !
Periodically my ear gets a build up of wax and I go to my GP and get it syringed, rang for an appointment with the nurse today, due to covid, they aren’t doing these tasks. Receptionist said somewhere like spec savers will do it in their ear dept. Looked this up and it’s £55. Now if this is the route and cost I have to go down I will, as it’s awful with this hoovering noise in my ear, but I wondered if any dibbers had something similar and been able to clear the blockage. I’ve been using Earol in anticipation of the nurse doing it with the fast water jet they use, I obviously haven’t got one of those. Any suggestions / ideas / remedies please. |

DS seems to be very fortunate and gets an annual appointment sent through for micro suction at the hospital.
He used to have them syringed but our surgery also stopped this so referred him. He was only around 14 when first referred though and couldn’t have private micro suction at that age. This may be how he got lucky! I can only say that the Aural team at the hospital have always said olive oil or nothing. Apparently anything else turns the wax into an almost papery pulp and makes matters worse. Edited at 04:37 PM. |

I’m exactly the same as you, been having my ears syringed for the last 10 years about once a year as they block up. I was told that it’s not just due to covid and eventually this service will be removed at every GP surgery. My Specsavers don’t offer it so I’ve been going to a place that is £75 for both ears. Be warned though, privately they only offer microsuction and in my opinion it’s nowhere near as good as old school syringing. I’ve been twice within 6 months which is unusual and I think it’s because they leave so much behind with the microsuction (probably for repeat business 😡

Both Ds and I suffer from narrow tubes and get build up of wax. Our doctors no longer do it not just due to COvid but because apparently it can damage your ear drum. I paid £80 to have both ears hoovered out 3-4 years ago and it was bliss. However it has now got bad again so think I may have to bite the bullet and pay again. I know I shouldn’t use cotton buds but sometimes it gives a bit of short term relief🥴
Personally £55 seems good or is that just for one ear? Good luck with it x

Probably get slated for this but our surgery also stopped doing this so about 3 year ago I bought one of these on ebay, I use the oil for 7 days beforehand and I must admit it has been really good, just a personal choice.

My son really struggles with this and it affects his schooling. It took me 3 months to get a referral to a hospital after being told the surgery won't do anything about it any more, it was so compacted he needed a foaming treatment as well as microsuction. They tried to get us to go private but I couldn't find anyone that would do it on children, this is basic health care especially for a child, it's well documented the impact poor hearing has on education. Just another thing Covid is impacting, although they played the "it's not good for the ears" card too, convenient they found that out around Covid huh.

Mum told to have ears syringed before her annual NHS hearing test, but, drs surgery no longer doing so had to find another source cheapest we found was Specsavers £55 for both ears.
Mind they refunded it when mum brought hearing aids from them that cost just shy of £2k weren't they kind! |

Can I ask if this is in both ears or just one?
Husband has issues with this in one ear, causing ‘buzzing’ and is making him hard of hearing. The doctor says it can’t be wax build up or tinnitus as it’s just in one ear(?) he has been referred to a specialist but heaven knows how long that will take. Maybe it is worth trying olive oil? The OTC remedies we have tried have not really done any good.

I have a kit like that and it works wonders and has helped me keep on top of the wax build up

I had a blockage a year or so ago, I used other drops for about 5 days then purchased this. Oh it was fantastic. I could hear a pin drop afterwards.
