Where do you get the pin trading starter kits?

They sell them in most shops onsite. We got a star wars one with a lanyard. Apparently there are loads of official Disney pins for sale on eBay for a couple of quid each.

And many of them are fake.

You can often pick up cheap pins for trading in the Disney Outlets.

The Character Warehouse at the Vineland outlets had Princess Sophia and Doc McStuffins ones for $2.99 this week and plenty others for $4.99. They also had some multipacks that were good value. Best advice is buy the cheapest and pick multiples of the same pin so you will actually want to trade.

Re pin trading. If you’re going to buy the cheap starter kits, don’t let your kids expect someone will trade those pins for a much nicer more expensive one!

The cast members will always trade as long as you have a genuine Disney pin. They don't have to want yours. There are so many cast members with pins that my girls have never felt the need to try and trade with other guests.

Same here. Some experienced traders are quite dismissive of children. They are only interested in "premium" pins.

Having said that, some traders are quite happy to show their collections and chat with children.

Our experience too.
The only time mine ever tried to trade with some one who wasn't a cast member was because he was dressed up like a Jungle Cruise skipper and they (and I) thought he was a cast member. He was really weird and dismissive but we saw other children try to trade with him as well.

Ah yes. But Disney staff are doing their jobs. My view of buying your children a cheap set of pins then spending your trip upgrading them to decent ones with cast members is not a positive one. Just my personal position on this of course. Mine are adult/older teens now but pin trading taught them how to learn the ‘value’ of something and research that value in advance. For me that was a valuable business lesson.
