Cape Coral review
Just wanted to give a small review of out time in Cape Coral,
Thanks to Chris s for the driving directions from Orlando and all the other information she has shared. We took route 17 which was a lovely drive down. Not too much traffic and we loved seeing all the different types of houses and towns on the way. We stopped at Punta Gorda and had lunch at Harpoon Harry's bar, overlooking the marina. This was a great place and right next door was some small independent shops there to have a wander round after lunch. We then drove just down the road to Peace River Wildlife Centre. They are a non profit wildlife rehabilitation and education centre. It's free but donations are appreciated. They are only a small place but they do have quite a few different kinds of birds there. We stayed at a beautiful 2 bed villa with a pool from the Home away Website. We really enjoyed where we stayed which was near the Yacht Club. We ate at the Boat House Tiki Bar where we had great live music from Dus Trio Doc Ford's Fort Myers Beach, where Deb And The Dynamics were playing during a Sunday afternoon. Great band. How some of the old people were dancing in that heat I shall never know Fantastic afternoon. Ford's Garage great burgers. Rum Runners best steak but a bit pricey We visited Sanibel Island, Captiva both beautiful. We had a quick visit to J N Ding Darling wildlife refuge, but it was extremely hot day and they do not do the tours on a Friday! We went on a boat trip with Captain Bruce Harrington from Sw Florida Private Getaway. Bruce is quite a character! We met him at Pine Island Marina. He took us to North Captiva a beach that is only accessible by boat. Swimming in the sea was wonderful and so much wildlife. Cabbage Key where we saw the Gopher Tortoises. We saw dolphins and lots of different birds. This is a great day out and very reasonable priced for your own boat and Captain. Would definitely recommend him. We drove up the coast to Venice, really lovely pretty town, where you can walk along a avenue with lots of independent shops. Never seen this before in America! I would definitely visit this area again and found this part of the holiday so relaxing |
