It depends on the cruise line, but they may have special offers on their website for excursions, speciality meals, spa treatments etc if you book in advance. Not exactly cheap, but if you were planning to book them anyway it may be a saving.

As for cruising tips for keeping costs down, I'd agree with what people have said above above.

Cruise excursions sold by the ship can be more expensive than buying
offship, but of course the ship's excursions guarantee they will get you back to the ship on time (Not that most reputable companies wouldn't also get you back in time, but you may want that guarantee being your first time)

Always look at if you can walk around ports by yourself, especially if there are no particular places further afield that you want to visit. Walking round the towns near ports is a good way to get a taste of a place.
Some ports are better for this than others, some have lovely harbours and old town districts close to the cruise ports etc. Just do your research beforehand

As far as alcohol is concerned, always check what the policy is with your cruiseline as to how much alcohol you can bring on for personal consumption. Some lines are more generous than others. (I think P&O allow a litre of beer wine or spirits per person from a quick google?)

Same with soda, soft drinks, water, check how much you can bring onboard.

We always get a drinks package as long as it also includes fancy coffees milkshakes etc as we like the convenience. But bringing your own on will keep your costs down if you decide to not get a drinks package.

It’s with p&o. Have booked cheapest room inside cos it’s only 7nights.
Definitely do want to do the ports. Want to explore new places with the kids but without the hassle of lots of travelling really.

Says on the website that after may gratuity is no longer changed so was just gonna leave tips for the stewardess.

No drinks included unless you do tea and coffee in the buffet restaurants or rooms

Also ice cream not included ☹️

We've been on p&o a couple times now, and not once bought the ice cream because there is sooo much free food you can be eating, morning, noon & night there is ice cream available in the restaurants everyday for dessert along with the other 5 courses. Enjoy x

Was thinking more the kids cos it’s near the pool lol but I have been known to like ice cream a lot.

Glad you can see my picture. It has only taken me nearly 7months to work out how to do it. Can do a trip report now, maybe. Said that to my hubby an got the eye rolls. Obviously wasn’t impressed at the thought
