You don't need a second form of id. On our recent Caribbean cruise it was announced that a government issued photo id was required for when we returned into the port secure area ie need to show photo id and cruise card. In only one of the nine ports did we need to show id (St Thomas). However, we always carried our driving licences as photo id - passports were left securely in the safe in our cabin.

Thank You! We will use our driving licences although our son only has a passport for I.d ( disabled & no driving license) so we will need to be extra careful!

We have cruised the Caribbean several times and only take a photocopy of the information page from our passport with us and have never had any problems apart from Bermuda where when we went to go back they insisted on passport and we and several others were all ticked off by officials and escorted back to the ship and handed over the the cruise line.

You don’t say how old your son is but only those 18 and over need to provide ID for getting back on the ship, obviously need a passport for checking in.

Just returned from a similar cruise and can echo what has been said RE photo ID. They only asked to see it in St Thomas and St Kitts but we were advised to take it off the ship at all ports.
All they require is a 'government issued photo ID', can you get anything else for your son? I wouldn't feel very comfortable carrying a passport around, especially if you want to leave your stuff on the beach while you swim etc.

Is this the same for all cruises? We're going from Canaveral and stopping at a couple of places in Mexico...?
