Poor swimmer myself so had the life jacket on the full time. Loved the reef but the lazy river was unneccesarily deep in many parts. Didn't enjoy that much.

There's also a very deep part in the marmoset pool. My husband was carrying our little girl around the pool, stepped down and went under.

The lifeguard did say 'there's a step' but didn't mention it was crazy deep and we didn't see any signs to warn us!

Other than that we did have a good day. My husband did the lazy river on his own, he's a strong swimmer but couldn't have carried our 2 year old around whilst swimming. If they allowed rubber rings for little ones to sit in it would have been better.

When I was there last year everyone in my dolphin swim group did the shallow swim - none of us were particularly good swimmers and we all felt more comfortable. I was the last in my group and fell off just after I left the group leader! So I walked back to her and had another go and all was fine.

I'm also a non/poor/nervous swimmer & I don't miss out on anything! Did the lazy river with a noodle, dolphin swim can be done in the shallows (its no less an experience) or you can go out deep with your flotation vest, did sea venture & snorkelled in the grand reef in my vest. Love the place!

My hubby is a nervous swimmer and loves discovery cove. He wears a life vest for the lazy river but then so do I and I'm a great swimmer, it's lovely to float around! Lots wear them. Hubby also wears one in the grand reef and I have too in the past when I had little ones to carry whilst snorkelling, it actually makes snorkelling easier, don't give it a second thought.
