No breakfast in the airport before boarding the plane-terrible planning!😆 We had the joy of a 2 hour delay so managed to get some food but normally we never seem to fit it in. Berlin looks great in the photos. My kids would love the hotel room especially the sliding doors! Shame it rained but it didn’t spoil the exploring. The only rain we saw was on the walk back to the station to get the train from Salzburg, luckily we had some umbrellas!

The sliding doors were great fun! I'm glad the weather was good for you. Did you visit Salzburg for the day? I'm being really nosy, you don't have to tell me! But I absolutely loved Salzburg last year it was a beautiful city...I sort of thing that actually I preferred it to Berlin.

Great first day, apart from the rain. The room looks nice, handy having the divider. The food all looks good, reasonable prices too, especially compared to your hotel meal the night before

The rain and the wind was a pain as it meant we couldn't really use the umbrellas properly, in spite of being hand luggage only we still squeezed in the umbrellas, which I was quite proud of!
The food was all very good prices really for a capital city. I don't eat out in London very often but that always feels very expensive in comparison. I kind of think if the 4 of us can eat 2 courses and have drinks for under £100 then that's pretty good. In Berlin all our meals were under this by a long way so it definitely is budget friendly, perhaps we ate at places that weren't too fancy though!

Yes we went on the train for the day. It really is a beautiful city I would love to go back and visit it properly. It looked gorgeous all lit up in the evening walking back to the train in the rain. My girls were fascinated with the rather posh McDonalds sign! I love Munich but there was something a bit more magical about Salzburg. This was our 3rd visit to Munich I think it’s a great city and it’s good to explore other areas too. We had a lovely summer there visiting the lakes and mountains in Miesbach and Schliersee. Another time we visited in December and explored the different winter markets and now we’ve done Halloween. We must try to get there to do Ocktoberfest!

I just couldn't help bursting into song as we walked around Salzburg, the kids loved it everywhere we turned there was something that reminded me of the sound of music and I couldn't help myself! You're right it was very pretty when all the lights came on.
Thank you for satisfying my curiosity! It sounds like you know Munich really well. It would be good to get back to Germany during Oktoberfest, I looked it up before our trip as I thought it might still be going on but it had already finished.

A decent start, glad you weren't delayed in the end.
I so wanted one of you to say "We're here - but should we have come?" I love Travel Man. I remember the green men with the hats, they are definitely a Berlin thing. Dusseldorf has men doing handstands for some reason.

Ha ha! I really should have done the Travel Man quote, it would have been very funny!
The green men were a cute little oddity that we didn't know about before the trip. How interesting that in Dusseldorf the men are doing handstands.

Considering that this was a travel day you did so much.
How lucky that you were expecting an hour delay and ended up taking off 4 minutes early. I do like Travel Man, it inspired us to visit Valencia earlier in the year, and we rewatched his Amsterdam episode before we went there too. I think that the Helsinki episode is good, but I do have a soft spot for Paul Rudd ;-) Those Novotel Suites are really good. I stayed in one for work once and I loved having all the space and a little mini kitchen. Such a shame about the weather but I like that you carried on with your sightseeing plan. The snacks from back Factory look yummy, that's one for me to try! The crossing man is a bit of a local celebrity in Berlin, isn't he?! I suppose we have the beefeaters and soldiers in bearskins in all our gift shops, they have the bears and Amperman! Your pizzas look yummy, perfect dinner for a drizzly day. At least your spicy pizza would have warmed you up

We were really lucky the room was ready so early. It was a good size really for being in the city.
This was the worst day for weather, still we soldiered on and did our own walking tour taking in sights. I hadn't known about the crossing man before we went, it was a fun little discovery and we loved spotting the little souvenir shops. The pizza place on the corner was very handy. We were all tired from our early wake up and couldn't be bothered to walk further afield. It was very spicy!
