I was thinking that, when we were there in the summer you needed a room key to get into the pool area and onto the beach

We went to concierge when we arrived, we had to show our DVC cards and they checked we were staying onsite at WDW and gave us a day pass (like the old WDW room keys) for the pool and beach access. They were really helpful and told us all about the resort.
