Don't think we double back much? Vegas to Flagstaff, then up to Grand Canyon, out of GC via East entrance over to Monument Valley where we have to backtrack a bit on same roads then head off NW towards Page then Zion.

I know Flagstaff is about an hour further east than we really need to go but my wife wants to visit there and it will mean going on some different roads to when we did a quick GC trip out of Vegas 5 years ago.

Hi again sorry typed vegas when a meant LA . Meant if when you leave LA head straight to canyon flagstaff etc and leave vegas to after this loop, from there you could the do Death Valley on a day trip. Just some food for thought . Lots of advice which we all can get ideas from. Will be a great trip which ever route you take

Went to the view but just for a few hours this year was amazing wonderful people totally amazing scenery and food was not a rip off. Only thing I may suggest is how long will you be there ? We want to stay there but would probably aim to arrive mid afternoon and leave after breakfast as whilst the scenery is stunning there is nith8ng else there.

We are the same with Grand Canyon (though we have been 4 or 5 times) we dont feel we need a huge amo7nt of time there and have you considered staying 8n the village ? We have stayed at blue angel but this time stayed at Maswick Lodge which we actually preferred although it was a 5 minute walk from the canyon.

Have you looked at the Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel. We did get the steam train from Williams to the Grand Canyon. Its a lovely way to see the country side and gave TractorBoy a break from driving. Staff are so knowledgeable on the train and we also got various buses to areas of the Canyon.

We have just finished our planning of the west coast - have been twice before so looking for something new to fit in on the way.

Our plan so far:
2 nights Monterray
2 nights Solvang - to break up journey
5 San Diego - Balbao Park etc.
3 Palm Springs - for Joshua Tree
3 Las Vegas - hoping to book a show
fly to San Francisco
4 nights San Francisco before flying home

AlexE yes fantastic. We also did yellowstone 2018 4 nights well worth a trip in the future if you can. We flew to denver and then onto Bozeman , from there over an 11,000 ft snow covered mountain pass into the park which is approx 60 miles across. From here we went to Lake Tahoe and onto Monterey,San Fran again

That sounds great. Tractor Boy wants to see Mount Rushmore but it appears to be in the middle of nowhere and haven't managed to find a way to fit it in with other locations.
