We started a tradition of getting a pearl for our daughter at the pearl shop in Old Town back in 1995 when she was 9. Any time we're back, we get one for her (always there) and now our grand daughters. Quite a few pearls in the family now, including some blue ones which are relatively rare. We have purchased some nice fittings for them, along with just the standard 'bunny ears' depending on if it's for a special birthday or anniversary. Once a tradition is started, it can get expensive lol.

Pete

Our girls did it at Epcot and they loved it. They had a little fanfare / ceremony which they really enjoyed. Was topped off as our eldest picked the biggest pearl that they’d apparently had over the summer so they sang a different song with all the staff in the shop. Youngest picked out a black one

You can pickup cheaper necklaces and cages elsewhere if you don’t want to buy theirs.

I can’t remember the cost but I am sure it was less than $20. Somewhere in the teens I think. This was a couple of years ago. Did this in Japan and would recommend it.

I think the price was around $30, and it was slightly cheaper ($26ish) at the kiosk. DD had $30 spending money but decided she wanted a teddy instead 😃

It sounds a reasonable price to me thanks, we’ll definitely plan to do it this time.

My dd did it in Japan on our trip in 2016. She loved it and her happy little face makes me smile! I bought her a Minnie head necklace from ETSY for it to go in. I love the little ceremony the castmembers do!

I'd love to do this with my daughters in the summer.

Are you guaranteed to get a pearl? What happens if the oyster is empty, or does that never happen?

Have you been able to do this recently? - Any reference I have found was quite old and some of it seemed to imply it had stopped. It would be great if it's not as we are not visiting Epcot but we are SeaWorld.
