WDW Resort new Credit Card Policy
I am trying to determine if this makes a big difference to me or not and I was wondering what others might think.
Usually we book direct with Disney for hotel and tickets and so have paid for all of that before we go. We have a credit card linked to the booking and simply use the magic bands for all purchases . We put tips, merchandise, drinks etc etc on the magic bands , I love the convenience. Midway through our stay I go to the reception and pay off the balance with cash and then everything after that point is charged to the credit card at checkout. So am I correct in thinking that the new policy will mean that 1.If over the course of a week I spend $1000 , a hold for that amount plus $100 will be put on my credit card ? 2. I could avoid this hold on my card by simply paying for all purchases with credit card and not magic band? But I would be incurring the foreign exchange transaction fee charged by the credit card company for every single purchase? 3.If I have a credit limit that would support whatever funds I think might be "held" it should be the same as always? Last year the day before check out I got a note on the door informing me that there was a problem with my credit card. This was the card that was linked to my account and which I had used in the outlets, Universal, Restaurants outside Disney with no problems. Reception were unable to tell me what the problem was , they were unable to resolve it and were quite unhelpful . Calls to my bank and credit card company confirmed that there was no issue with the card so the issue appeared to be at the Disney side of things. In the end I had to use a work issued credit card to pay my final balance which wasn't ideal. I do realise that this is industry standard but its new to Disney and given my above experience I'm slightly apprehensive. For those of you who pay in the same way do you think it will make a difference to how to normally do things? |

1.If over the course of a week I spend $1000 , a hold for that amount plus $100 will be put on my credit card ? Yeah that's right
2. I could avoid this hold on my card by simply paying for all purchases with credit card and not magic band? But I would be incurring the foreign exchange transaction fee charged by the credit card company for every single purchase? Yeah but the fees will be the same either way 3.If I have a credit limit that would support whatever funds I think might be "held" it should be the same as always? Yeah you would only notice if you looked at your online credit card account at 'pending authorisations/transactions' |

TBH I think this only really affects those that liked to pay off room charges, in cash, as the hold will always be there. Each level of resort has always had a maximum spend, after which the card on file is charged & the limit starts again. Deluxe used to be $1500, not sure if it still is, so they "hold" $1600.

Is it $1100 for each week? Or for the stay?

Having only read about this on the Dibb I understand it as only being an issue if you plan on paying in cash towards the end of your holiday and your available credit doesn’t match what your spending? I always go with no balance on my Post Office credit card and a decent credit limit so I imagine I’d essentially be unaffected by this new rule.

How about this scenario. I check in and they swipe my caxton card for room charging. $100 hold - no probs. I spend $300 the next day so another hold is put on there for $400. Surely the original $100 hold will still be on there? Ive never heard of a hold being increased before and they take a while to drop off. So day three I spend $250 so another hold for $350 is put on my card. I now have three holds on there $100, $400 and $350. It will likely be the second week when they drop off blocking funds on the card. Unless someone can tell me a hold can be incraesed?

We are changing hotels mid-stay from All Star Sports to Animal Kingdom Lodge- does this mean that we will be charged twice? I'm guessing we will. How long does it take for the charge to go back on after ?
Also, can we use a different card than the one we're paying with? I'm just thinking as husband and I usually split between FairFX and credit card/debit card as we get paid mid-way through stay! so many questions! |
