Anyone with any experience of Gall Stones?
Hi,
Just looking for a bit of info from anyone who suffers/has suffered with gall stones. On Saturday i started with some stomach pains, very high up and under the ribs. By the afternoon/evening i had constant back pain, again at lower ribs level, on my left side. Paracetamol didnt touch it. The pains grew stronger and stronger until i ended up ringing 111 in the middle of the night to see what they suggested and they said i should be seen by a doctor within the next 2 hours. Anyway long story short i ended up and the hospital and saw an emergency GP. By this time im getting chest pains too and im almost in tears with the pain. They asked about what i'd eaten and seemed fixated on the fact i had a cheese toastie saturday morning and have basically said it might be gall stones. Ive been given strong painkillers until i get an abdominal scan but im really sceptical that its gall stones. Would gall stones give me chest and back pains? Also from what ive read, the pain from gall stones is on the right, mine is on the left. |

I think it’s hard to say without a scan - my gallstone pain was definitely higher up, but just felt like it was all over my upper abdomen and back when it was at its worst.
Did the doctors say they would be doing any other investigations to rule out other conditions? Hope you feel better soon! |

Oh Dear! Sounds nasty.
My pain was directly in the middle of my breast bones and shot to the right ... it was worse than labour pains and had me on my knees! Sadly all they gave me was buscopan and paracetamol 😩😩 9 months later-gal bladders taken out... phew! I did not want to go through that again! |

Back, shoulder, and just below the ribs here. Try a warm bath and/or get down on hands and knees to temporarily relieve the pain. Hands and knees on the stairs was helpful too.

There is no set areas but what you describe sounds like it, I had a nagging pain around my bra and left shoulder for years - thought it was because I did more driving and computer work
Pain is worse than child birth according to most sufferers- if it is gall stones get the gall bladder removed asap

I had constant back pain. The pain at the front moved about but always started on the right hand side - it was agony. I was so glad when my gall bladder was removed!
I found sitting with a hot water bottle at my back helped. Edited at 10:36 PM. |

I've just had my appt with the surgeon today to have my gallbladder out. My pain is just under my bottom rib on the right with associated back pain. 6 weeks ago my gallstone tried to escape but is too big so got stuck- worst pain ever. Have had my scan and basically now waiting for surgery. Sometimes the pain radiates down to my waist but I've not had chest pain so far. My gallbladder is actually ok so food doesn't irritate me it's just one large stone that's causing my problem.
I waited about 2 weeks from GP referral for my scan. Hope you get an answer soon.

I had pancreatitis due to gall stones and the pain was awful, it was quite high in the abdomen and central, at the time I thought I could be having a heart attack...when my gall bladder was removed 3 weeks later it was shot...

My pain started in under my right rib, and radiated round my stomach, it was horrible pain! Nothing would touch it, cocodamol only calmed it a little as they were easing off. It honestly has me in tears every time!
It would also get just little stabs when I ate something that angered it! I too had a giant stone and a couple friends. Had my gall bladder out last March after 6/9 months of waiting, best thing ever! Once it was healed up I haven’t had any further bad pains!

Hi there,
I had several episodes of chest pain... once ending up with an ECG before I was diagnosed with gallstones. Also had what has already been described by others as high abdominal pain and tenderness in my side. Was a relief to have it removed in the end... take care
