With the exchange rate it works out to be £59.74 and a ticket to Alton Towers costs £48.

MK open 9am to 9am most days with sometimes 12 midnight. Jump the queues is free. Parking is $16

AT open 10am to 9pm on special event days only but usually between 5pm to 6pm the queueline closes. Fasttrack the queues you got to pay for and parking is £6.

So really value for money Disney wins hands down.

A 1 day MYW Base ticket to MK costs $105.45 (with tax). At the current Visa exchange rate (with no extra charges) this will be equivalent to £64.

Online ticket price for 1 day at Alton Towers is £36 if booked a week in advance. If you're going as a 'family' it costs £31 per person. (For 2 days it's £37 per family member).

And it's incredibly easy to get 2 for the price of 1 vouchers for Alton Towers (they're everywhere!), meaning that most people won't pay more than £24 per person for 1 day at Alton Towers.

Parking is also cheaper at AT than MK too (£6 rather than £10-ish). And, again, you can sometimes get free parking vouchers for AT.

Although, yes, Alton Towers generally shuts significantly earlier than MK. And you get 3 fastpasses for 'free' at MK.

Obviously it's very subjective but both, I think, are similar value for money (i.e. MK is twice as good but costs just over twice as much).

But you are of course looking at a 1 day MYW ticket against offers / deals that AT may offer.

Think you are best comparing like for like with the gate price. I would suggest based on this then the MK is better value.

On a Alton Towers site I worked it out as with a 14 day Disney ticket it's £259 which works out to be £21 per day. So is cheaper than a day at Alton Towers with a 2 for 1 if u went to 14 Merlin parks in 12 months.

Now, AT don't do 14 day tickets - but 7 times the online price of 2 day tickets comes to £259. And thats without the 2 for 1 deal.

You can also get a Merlin Annual Pass for £159 for 1 person, £119 per person in a family. And they often do discounts - we got ours for about £80 per person. That's about 200+ days access to Alton Towers - and lots of other attractions - for less than a pound a day. (Disney also does an Annual Pass but the regular AP is nearly £400).

Unlike Alton Towers, Disney doesn't do online deals or 2 for 1 vouchers. The 1 day gate price at Disney is the best you can get. But very few people (if any) actually pay the gate price at Alton Towers.

But, at the end of the day, a day at either Alton Towers or Magic Kingdom is a great day out. Both are worth the money. And funnily enough, since visiting Florida I've probably visited MK more than AT - even though I only live about an hour from AT.

I always thought Alton Towers in the 90's was like Disney of the 90's.
I even first went to Disney World before Alton Towers.

Now why I thought Alton Towers was like Disney

1) Towers Street in 1993 had magical music, street entertainment and park mascots

2) Toyland Tours which opened in 1994 reminded me of it's a small world.

3) Alton Towers also had a daily parade, magic shows, ice show and staff dressed in uniforms to suit the theme of the area.

4) Fast Track we added mid to late 90's and was free

Nowadays

1) Towers street is now full of staff trying to get you to buy fast track tickets, photos together, refillable mugs&all you can eat deals.

2) Toyland Tours was replaced by the very poor Charlie and the Choclate factory. I so hope when this goes it gets rethemed to a Dr Who attraction.

3) All staff exept a few on the Smiler and Sub Terra just wear a basic Alton Towers staff uniform.

4) Fasttrack tickets started to charge guests from 2005.

I feel Disney may charge $99 for a day ticket and Hollywood Studios and Epcot really need new attractions but they have spent a lot of money on new attractions at the Magic Kingdom and do a lot of work upgrading the park and with Avaitar coming to Animal Kingdom in 2016/17.

Oh, I agree that AT isn't as good as MK. Or any of the main parks in Orlando.

But I can get to AT for the price of a bit of petrol and around £24 per person. To get into MK costs a lot more - but is totally worth it.

BTW, last time I went to AT I'm sure Towers Street still had magical music, a couple of street entertainers and a mascot or two. Yes, it also had lots of staff trying to sell a variety of stuff (but I'm sure it always used to?).

And, y'know what, I never knew AT had a parade. I'm sure I would've visited between 1988 and 1993, when it ended, but I have no recollection of this. Perhaps I was too busy queuing for the Beast or Thunder Looper?
