I would check LGW-FLL as an alternative option, this is much cheaper with BA (we are flying this route next year and saved over £1800 compared to flying into MCO when we tagged on the hotel booking as well) and it's a very simple drive up to Orlando.
It also gives us the opportunity to have 3 nights and beach time in Fort Lauderdale before flying back after 2 weeks in Orlando
