Shore excursions looking for ideas

We are on harmony of the seas in August. Our stops are cococay, Costa maya, Cozumel and Roatan. With so many different shore excursions to choose from I am finding it difficult. Cococay is easy as we have booked perfect day. Does anyone have any ideas for the other stops? We are a family of three two adults in their early fifties and a fifteen year old girl. We would love to see some Mayan ruins but not sure which ones to choose. Never done any scuba diving and don't think we would be any good at it also don't enjoy sun bathing but apart from that we are open to all ideas. We like animals, history and nice scenery amongst other things.

In Cozumel we did a 3 reef snorkel, which took us on a drift snorkel over palancar reef and to the starfish sanctuary. No scuba experience needed but you would need to be comfortable in deep water.

Check out Maya Chan beach club in Costa Maya. Gorgeous little private beach club that takes a very limited number of guests. You have a reserved cabana with loungers and hammocks. The food is all included (and incredible) and so are drinks, fancy cocktails all sorts of things. The staff can't do enough for you, they will kayak drinks out to you if you are in the sea! Activities like paddleboard and kayaks included too. The beach is rustic and the water often a tad murky but it's so relaxing.

Roatan we did a ship excursion to West Bay (They call it Tabyaba beach). Stunning beach but sadly for us it rained nearly all day! Be careful venturing off by yourself in Roatan, its safer to stick with a ship excursion.

Thank you for the reply. I don't mind deep water but have never been snorkelling I didn't realise you don't need experience. The Roatan excursion sounds interesting I don't think we would be brave enough to venture anywhere on our own anyway but thank you for the advice.

You don't really need experience snorkelling- its just some people would find a deep water drift snorkel quite intimidating and perhaps say it's not for beginners. My husband is quite unsure of it himself and only does it because I want to! A lot of people are uncomfortable jumping off boats and being in water they can't stand in. I used to be scared of it myself but pushed myself into doing it and now I love it.

But as far as using the actual equipment etc it's easy and no experience needed. We bring our own full face snorkels but they provide all equipment.

These photos might give you an idea of how deep the reef snorkelling is in Cozumel. We saw turtles and stingrays.

This is Maya Chan beach club in Costa Maya

Probably the best Mexican food I've ever had!

This is West Bay beach in Roatan. Super pretty but we only had that sun for 10 minutes the snorkelling off the beach is supposed to be outstanding but we didn't get to see it. I know you can do tours around the island to wildlife places and zip lining there

We didn't do any ruins as DH didn't fancy it. I'd probably go to the closest ones rather than the ones that take hours on a coach to get to! If you go from Cozumel I think you have to do a ferry and then a coach. So much to do in Cozumel as well I'd do ruins at another port.

In Cozumel we did a ruins tour that was not too long and then drove around the coast road with a stop to see the breakers and a small market - was a great way to spend half day.
