I agree with Mo, try an oil rather than a moisturiser
Decleor Neroli oil is really good (allbeauty had it at a really good price recently). Elemis pro-collagen or rose oils are both brilliant but again try allbeauty and wait until it’s on an offer as you will get it much cheaper than at the likes of John Lewis, qvc etc |

I truly believe you don't need to spend a fortune on beauty products that work. I've suffered with bad skin since I was about 11 (I am 28 now) - it's not bad acne but it's a constant, depressing and never ending stream of spots around my chin / cheeks and jawline.
Things that made a difference to me - Being on Dianette (this is the only thing that gave me clear skin but there are side effects so I came off it) Pixi Glow Tonic La Roche Posay moisturisers (these are fab) Carbon theory products (OK only been using for a few weeks but the difference has been amazing so far - and the soap is £6 so well worth a punt!) I also, about a year ago, paid for a private dermatology appointment at a private hospital and she thought it a hormone inbalance and prescribed me Spiraloactane which has really improved things. Not as good as when I was on Dianette but a lot better than nothing and there's not really any side effects to worry about.

Oh that’s cool that it’s your friend’s IG, she’s really good. I’ve loved the Ordinary stuff for years but I’ve always been unsure of mixing or combining the stuff as it all sounds so chemical and I find it hard to know what is needed, so I’ve got a nice routine from looking at her insta.

As far as I knew chin spots are often hormonal (I certainly find them to be) so defo have a word with the nurse,
Caroline Hirons is an absolute skincare god! So check her YouTube for suggestions, I really like the superfacialist by umma bennan range in boots, they have some great products with salicylic acid which is good for blemishes, (it’s not much more expensive then the normal brands) or brand called the good things (used to be in boots, but there are online) I use their charcoal wash which is really nice. Of course skincare is a quite individual thing so you have to try and see what works!

I love The Ordinary. The Inkey List is also a good alternative (and UK made as well I think). I don’t suffer from acne per se, but my skin is very “clogged”. I use Salicylic acid - which gets into pores and pushes out dirt, hyaluronic acid - which hydrates the skin, and then niacinamide - which helps inflammation and redness. Then an SPF moisturiser on top. It can be a bit scary with the long scientific names, but once you know what you’re doing I’ve found it really beneficial. Plus each product is around the £5 mark and lasts ages!

Wayne Goss on You Tube has some good instructions on which Ordinary products to use and in what combination. The website too.

I had a similar problem a few years ago, I was terrified of coming off the pill because of what it did to my skin the time before but this time I researched and was prepared. I bought Silver Serum which is a lotion that you apply a couple of times a day - it’s similar to a moisturizer, it absorbs straight into the skin. It strips the bad bacteria from your skin but then replaces it with good bacteria which most spot treatments don’t do. It’s available online from The Skin Shop. I can’t recommend it enough. I also started taking DIM supplements. It’s now 4 years since I came off the pill and although I get the odd spot now and again my skin is fantastic.

I was having the same issues last year, I decided to try the No7 Protect and Perfect range and I love it, it’s made such a difference. I’ve tried most of the products and they’ve all worked well so I buy a selection when they’re on offer and change product each time I finish one so that my skin doesn't get used to one thing.
I use the No7 HydraLuminous Water Concentrate before moisturising and I think this product might be the one that made the most difference to my skin, my skin is much more even now whereas before I had some oily areas and some dry. It’s hyaluronic acid I think that helped and No7 do a whole range of moisturisers with it but I like the water concentrate the best. It goes on 3 for 2 a couple of times a year so I stock up then a bottle lasts me about 6 months using once a day. |
