Whitby - a lovely day out. We parked on Westcliff (£6 for 8 hours). Crazy golf is nearby too. (9 holes - £3 pp). Then it’s a short stroll to the whalebone arch and statue of one of my hero’s - Captain James Cook RN. Then some steps down to the harbour where you can walk to the end of the jetty (red Marker - Port) giving you a view back on the harbour... lunch was fish , chips mushy peas from the Magpie cafe. Then a stroll over the swing bridge to get a lucky duck and then a walk up the 99 steps to the church and abbey (more wonderful views)... then a stroll down to the other jetty ( green - stbd Marker) before strolling back through the town via the Jet museum ( we also visited 3 hostelries) before embarking on a half size replica of HMS Endeavour (cooks ship) to take a 30 minute trip out to sea ... all in all we spent 6.5 hours in Whitby and it was a lovely day with great weather. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn’t visited before. It’s North Yorkshire at its best... and to think I used to cycle there as a young lad (50 miles round trip)... apart from the golf result ... a wonderful day.

i love Whitby, spent many years back and to for the goth weekend. Got engaged at Saltwick Bay on a cold February and my engagement ring came from W Hamond- jet and diamond in silver. Loved it until a diamond fell out and the cost to replace/repair was more than the ring. In normal times, steak pie, chips and a pint of cider in the Duke of York is our dream meal.

Love Whitby. We always used to go there on school trips. I used to always buy a Lucky Duck every time we went! My mum still has them all somewhere!

Great pictures, makes me feel all nostalgic as I haven't been for years.

You really had a gorgeous day for it. Hope you had a lovely day.

I spent the first 10 years of my life (bar one year) holidaying in Whitby loads of fond memories and cine films...

i was obsessed with the mini train on west cliff.. my my mam & dad used to tell me it was broken then we would hear the whistle

has hardly changed in all those years

cycling there on Saturday... just for the chips..
