Then you get to check in, they don’t let your bag on.
I don’t think that “ Lots of people I don’t really know on the Dibb Forum said it would be alright” will work as an excuse.

Why not just get a bag that fits the dimensions?
Sorted 👍
I agree. I don't understand why they think the rules don't apply to them.

I don't think anyone is justifying Oversized hand luggage just understanding simple mathematics.

Original poster understands it over one measurement size, and also understands the risk if measured and outcome if refused (both financial and time). What they are trying to understand in the unknown variable of how often these are measured. This would give them their risk vs reward value.

From my experience Virgin and BA rarely check but American airlines check more and more tightly regulated. This means you probably have a higher probability on the return leg of being checked.

im sorry but you’ve bought the bag knowing it’s borderline and are planning on using it and risking it anyway... why ask?

It's the wrong size and could get stopped. The volume is actually less than allowed, so there is no reward only risk.

The simple answer is ‘Not strict enough’. Too much time wasted with people trying to fit over large cases into the overhead lockers, delaying everyone else.

Thank you once again for trying to help me with this simple question. I have spoken to VA to get the info needed.

You've got to love the Dibb at times like this, some very helpful people on here

Glad you're sorted. In my experience Virgins application of the rule is provided you're not taking the mick (generically, not our Mick) they aren't going to be too strict.

Thanks, that's what the lady at VA said. She actually laughed when I told her I was getting a bashing on a forum for 4cm

I’ve seen BA check a few times although in my experience most of the time they are often concerned about weight

The only thing I will say - reagardless of sies of bags! I have never flown back from MCO without severeal tannoy announcements asking passengers to come forward and put their hand luggage in the hold. Every. Single. Time. But at least then you don’t have to pay 😂
