Child meal on the adult DDP?
Hi guys, next time we go, DS will be 10 and classed as an adult () but he really doesn't have an adult palette yet. We are trying to book different restaurants from our visit this year but he won't eat anything from the adult menu at most. Would the places let him eat from the child menu or should we just stick with what we know (RFC, T-REX etc)

Shouldn't be a problem at all. When we had free DDP last year, on a couple of occasions both DD and DW couldn't face an adult meal and just ordered a child meal.
Not sure about in TS restaurants, but I suspect it too would not be a problem. However, in a lot of TS restaurants, they will quite happily serve food plain and without sauces, serve fries instead of other potato sides, so could be a good opportunity for him to try new things. As examples, back in 2010 our own DD was 12 and not eating much else other than pizzas and nuggets. However, we ate at The Wave, and the server said that they could do her the seafood pasta as separate items - she had the pasta, shrimps and sauce all on separate dishes, but soon realised how much she enjoyed them all together. Forward to 2012 again with free DDP, and she was happily stuffing herself with lobster at Narcoossee's and steaks at The Captain's Grille. She even went for some Cuban food at Bongos which she really enjoyed.

Thanks for your reply The hope is that he would try new things-maybe if it's a case of this meal or nothing, he'll relent but could do without drama on holiday lol.
Hopefully, we will get lucky

I've asked this question too and have been told that it won't be a problem, they're pretty flexible and understanding. They'll make plain versions of adult meals or allow you to order a children's meal. when they're classing 10 year olds as adults there needs to be flexibility as a lot won't have a varied or mature palette at that age.

You can definately get children's meals even though you are using an "adult" credit. Although in some restaurants this year the server offered to use a child's credit and leave us with more adult ones (we have a boy of 4 as well as a girl of 10)

In October 2010 our DS was only just 10 as his birthday was only a week before we went.
They were happy to adapt meals to suit him. In the Plaza they made him a sandwich from individual items. He had some vegetables left out of some meals too. You can order from the kids menu although DS only did that once as he isn't a big eater of children's type foods. |

Just ask for what he wants. My DD quite often ordered plain chicken, and potatoes or mash. One evening she wanted a burger, so they did her a burger and chips which wasn't on the menu but was available at the QS next door. (to be fair, I think they shared a kitchen so that might not be possible everywhere)

This is really helpful. Dd will be 12 when we go next and when I have been looking at menus I have been worried she won't like some of the sauces etc

It's also worth mentioning, that quite often the sauces mentioned amount to little more than a few dots on the plate.

We're just back and didn't have DDP but we did eat in several on site restaurants. DD is 13 but looks much older as she is very tall for her age. We had no problem ordering off the kids menu for her. All she wanted in several places was chicken tenders
Next year if she's just the same we'll order off the kids menu for her and pay OOP. I'd rather save a dining credit for us to use another night as we're likely to want more than 5 TS meals. I am hoping her taste buds will mature though - Interestingly the one place she did love and can't wait to go back to is Teppan Edo. That's one I thought she'd have really difficulty with.
