Immigration Question
Sorry, I know this will have been asked before but can't find the answer.
We are travelling 1st July, 6 of us. My wife and I, Daughter and grandson, and son and his girlfriend. I did the ESTA for us all, but son's girlfriend obviously has a different surname. Do we go through immigration as a full party or does son's girlfriend have to go on her own and the rest of us go together. Thanks |

I think it's done by address so unless she lives with you she will go separately.

It really depends on immigration on the day unhelpfully. We got “told off” last time as my parents went separately and the immigration officer who processed us said everyone travelling together should go up together, however my parents immigration officer did not get told the same thing 🤷

Best advice is to ask the Greeter who stands at the end of the line directing you to the desks.
The policy states 'lives in the same household' but the Greeters change the policy as they see fit

The first year we went my other half and I didn’t live together, but the officer directing people didn’t ask questions, they just saw we were together and pointed us to a desk.
This year we live together, but same again, no questions were asked they just saw us talking to each other and directed us up together. |

I would go together unless directed otherwise... and if directed, follow directions.
Personally I think they vary it about so people that are up to no good and have been coached in what to expect and what to say will be put off their game when things don't go as planned, whereas a genuine traveller will just do what they are asked without any fuss.

Really is luck on the day, my daughters boyfriend had to queue separately when we all went, but when just the two of them went the guy called him over to be with my daughter

just do what they tell you on the day as it seems to change depending on who you see.
We've gone through together different names & addresses but classed as travelling together in 2 groups based on address Once I had to go through on my own as my surname was different to the others yet dd who lives elsewhere went through with the others as she has the same name as them |

When you get to the desk, just answer the questions the immigration officer asks you, they can be moody at times
We recommend that you write the address of where you are staying whether it is a hotel or a villa and have it with your passport. One of our guests only had it on his phone and the immigration office sent him off to a office where he was kept for 3 hours before would let him switch his phone on to give them the address, in the meanwhile his family were just waiting Lucky he saw the funny side of it Also don't look at your phones while in the immigration hall as you will be told off Melvin and Lesley
