Savings tin
Hi all. I thought it would be fun to start a savings tin to go towards our spending money when we go Sept 2020. We started about 2 weeks ago and put £50 in so far but we hardly ever get cash out these days so we’ll see. How have other people got on saving notes in a tin or jar and do you have any top tips? We have a jar for other change and we have a jar just for £2 coins too.

We have tins for coins and a direct debit for a set amount each week into a savings account. We don’t really use a lot of cash at home either. I keep the holiday savings going all the time even when we don’t have anything actually booked.

We have to tins one for copper and 5p and the other for 50p, £1, £2 and notes. Like u i rarely have cash but put birthday money/xmas money in and last night we had been to casino (not big gamblers just had good luck last night lol) and ended up putting 100 in my tin! So if j end up with money I just make a point of putting something in!

We do have a savings tin, mainly it is just money that hubbys gets for little cash on hands jobs at his garage, like changing a tyre for free and gets a £5 thank you tip.
I couldnt help it but open in yesterday and there is already £176 in the past 6 weeks, this is going to be the kids splurge money, as its technically free money I wont mind them spending silly money on rubbish! Each night I skim our account of pennies, so round up our account to the nearest pound. I often round it up to the nearest £10 0r £100 if its looking good. Our holidays savings is looking very good thanks to this! |

I have a savings jar which I put any change in every night. I also put in notes I have as well and also if I am on a night out and I don't spend as much as I thought I would, then I put that in as well. I'm opening it next Saturday and really can't wait to see what extra we have to spend on our trip in a few weeks time.

We sell a lot of bits on our local Facebook Bootfair and auction sites and all proceeds go in our pot. We also put in any loose change. It soon mounts up.

I bought a little bag in Disney that says “Snack Money” and I throw spare change in there and the odd fiver. If I’m paying for the weekly shop or petrel works debit card sometimes I ask for a fiver change and pop it in the bag when I get home. I started in Feb and I have £179 last count. Hoping for £300 when we go and we’ll use it for paying tips and buying snacks. Every little helps and it’s psychologically satisfying too because somehow you feel it’s “extra money” and you’re not really spending.

Get yourself a Monzo bank account. Setup a savings pot and set it to top up transactions to the nearest £ and put the remainder in the pot. Use your monzo to pay for things in shops. If you spend £4.46 in the shop it will then put 54p in the pot and take £5 from your balance. It soon adds up and you don’t notice it.
