London hotel/area recommendations please
I have just booked theatre tickets for Sister Act at the "Eventim Apollo", Hammersmith next August.
We will be flying into Heathrow T5. In all our trips to London we have taken the Heathrow Express to Paddington and stayed around that area. We have no idea about the Hammersmith area. So as it is just an overnight trip we don't know if we should stay near Paddington and just make way to theatre and get back after show OR stay near the theatre and get to Paddington for a lunchtime flight from Heathrow. Just to add we are not familiar with the tube and if we could avoid using it that would be better. Any recommendation please? Thank you

Tube is easiest and cheapest though. No changes, easy 40 min journey and you can’t really get on the wrong train as Heathrow is the end of the line, and the Piccadilly Line is the only one that goes there. Plus, you should have plenty of space to sit with your cases - if lots of people are getting on, just wait a couple of minutes till the next train.
It is mostly an overground journey so you get to see the ‘sights’ (!) as you travel. Very, very easy. You can even use a normal contactless card to tap on the turnstile to pay, so no need to buy tickets. The theatre is literally 10 min walk from Hammersmith station. Lots of places to eat round there too.

There is a Premier Inn about 15 min walk from the station on King Street. Very central, loads of shops and restaurants about, very safe.

That is perfect that is so straigtforward
I was looking at the Novotel which seems to be just a 5 minute walk from the theatre. Any suggestions to fill a half day around that area? Thank you

The tube station (Piccadilly line straight from T5) is in the middle of Hammersmith Broadway; imagine the Broadway as a very large roundabout.
The Novotel hotel is on one of the edges of the roundabout; the Apollo theatre is on one of the other edges of the roundabout; all within 5 minutes walk of each other & the tube station with easy safe pedestrian crossings to get from one to the other. If you like shopping, the massive Westfield with tons of shops, restaurants & activities is an easy 3 stops on the tube. It’s a short walk to the river for a walk along the Thames; lots of nice pubs on the riverside for lunch. |
