Mobile Asthma pumps

Hi all

Does anyone know If you can buy asthma pumps over the counter in Orlando or have you got to see a doctor?

Only reason were over 3 weeks next year and my partner normally only gets 2 from the GP and shes worrying that she will need more while over there?

Darn the GP here will only give her 2, when we went tenerife she struggled and we had to buy some because they wouldn't prescribe anymore.

If the GP won’t prescribe enough to cover a trip away I would put the request in writing explaining very carefully the length and dates of trip and the amount required to cover this trip. and Explain that you have verbally asked for this so previously so ask for any refusal to be put in writing with an explanation of why they aren’t prepared to prescribe the amount requested and then make a complaint. Id also consider asking a different GP at the same practice or moving practice.

Just get a private prescription for a couple from an online pharmacy.

Dr Felix are fab and if they ask reason for ordering I just put 'holiday spares'. It's about £18 for two including delivery.

When did she last have an asthma review at the doctors? If 2 inhalers won't last for a holiday then it doesn't sound as if it's well controlled. I have asthma and have reviews with a nurse at my GP surgery every six months. A salbutamol (blue) reliever inhaler lasts me ages when it's well controlled. I use a preventer inhaler also - symbicort, 2 puffs twice a day, and that lasts me 2 months. If it gets really bad I take steroid tablets for a couple of weeks till it's back under control.

This, absolutely. Going through 2 reliever inhalers in 3 weeks is poorly controlled asthma. She needs to see her GP/practice nurse to adjust her treatment.
