Connecting Flight Info

Might be a stupid question but my son has had his flight booked by work. He is flying from LHR - ATL - FW. All codes are VS so I assume he wont have to collect his luggage in Atlanta and it will be put on the next flight? is this correct?

Yes he will. You always have to clear immigration, collect luggage, clear customs and put his luggage back on the luggage belts the other side at the first entry point into USA

Exactly as loopyloo33 states.

On his return flight, if indirect, he will not see his luggage at the connecting flight airport.

Yes there are signs indicating connecting flights. The recheck desks are usually right outside the customs area.

How long connection does he have? Dont under estimate how long this process can take. Always better if he can get a seat at the ffront of his first flight to try and get into immigration queue quicker.

On the way home, you won’t see your baggage at Atlanta. You check it in at your first airport and won’t see it again until you’re back in the UK.

It’s only when entering the US from abroad where you have to pick up and recheck your bags.
