Yes we could’ve compromised but that’s not something we do when it comes to holidays. Spends are obviously variable, but comparing like for like, Florida was cheaper. I was told I was a liar when I first mentioned it on here a few years ago, I’m bracing myself for it again
I can back you up Jo because I was trawling through villa upon villa too and couldn’t believe what price they wanted for a villa the same size and standard as the ones we get in Florida , couple that up with the cost of flights in the summer holidays for short haul and how reasonable you can get flights going indirect to Florida, if you aren’t doing the parks that brings the cost right down too.
I’m sure we were only looking for a week in Europe as well as I remember you saying to the boys one week in Europe or two weeks in Florida but no parks and it was a no brainier .

It is frustrating, sometimes I feel some non Disney people have a sort of condescending attitude towards my annual Florida holiday. Most are very interested in it, but some act as though it’s lacking in some sort of substance. Everyone likes their own thing and that’s their business, I just ignore it now.

We have a villa and four direct flights to Cyprus in August for £2k. Much cheaper than our Orlando holidays - £7k+

We would prefer Orlando though!

It's a lot of money but they tend to be 6 to 8 berth so not so bad for an entire family.

My mum is on a site that charges similar prices and I could stay there free anytime, but no air conditioning and too many noisy kids having fun, so it's just not my scene.

Not every DIBBER is a Disney visitor. Many have opted out for various reason. Not everybody visits either of the other 2 franchises either. Then the holiday becomes even better value once you have opted out of the parks.

2 years back, in the Easter hols we travelled with friends.
Flights in to Pensacola and out of Daytona Beach £435pp, so £1740.
Car for 14 days £275
Margaritaville Hotel for 2 nights, £300 per family.
Destin Hotel for 2 nights £150
Tampa Hotel for 1 night £70
5 bed villa with pool between us for 9 nights £1020
Discovery Cove ultimate non swims 142pp
Food
Petrol (plenty).

So without food that is £842pp plus food etc. Not bad for a peak period multi centre and with pretty much all entertainment included.

Obviously if we had simply visited Orlando , and stayed in a villa after flydriving start and finish Tampa, we could have driven that down a great deal more.

The truth is that Orlando without Disney or Universal stacks up well against pretty much all opposition if you want to stay in a decent area with space and privacy (a Villa). .. and there is simply so much to do in the area.

How do you go on when the downer on Florida is your own husband! I would go again whenever possible but he just doesn’t want to go again. Just been having discussions about next years holiday and we can never agree. All you folk who want up go every year are your partners in agreement? We tried holidaying separately once and didn’t really like it.

We have booked for Lanzarote this year. Only a week in August but £1400 for flights and villa with own pool and pool table/ table tennis and 3 bathrooms/bedrooms . I do desperately want to go to Florida again though. If I could get that for Florida it may convince him !
