God bless Avios!
Well I had nearly 100,000 avios points, rang BA to tty and upgrade our flights, no avios upgrade flights available 😡
So then I started looking at the “experiences” on their website. So far I’ve booked Monterey aquarium, the HO HO bus in SF, whale watching at Newport Beach, and I’ve still got 56,000 avios points! So while it was annoying that I couldn’t use them to upgrade my flights, I’ve saved us quite a bit of actual cash by booking things we want to do, and can also plan our days a little bit too! Off to see what else I can find to book now

Sounds like you've done well with your avios points.
I've used some avios points for booking 2 hotel rooms at Gatwick this year and one night at the RPR at Universal for 4 adults on this trip. I tend to forget about the points, but it would have cost me over £500 for the above had I used cash. |

I use points for money off my flight and any left over pay for these sorts of excursions.
I travel solo so companion seats etc are no use. |

I used some of my Avios for 9 days car hire in San Francisco - used VS miles for Upper Class Flights & my IHG points for hotel stay in Frisco too so it pays to collect n use on lots of other things than actual flights too. Well done you.

It may have changed, but I remember Kennedy Space Centre being excellent value versus the parks or hotels or car hire when looking at relative $ saved per avios spend.

We love our Avios points. Our next trip will be to California. Thanks to Avios and our Amex 241 voucher we're flying club for just the cost of the taxes

Avios saved my bacon , I had to book at two days notice to fly to Ireland for a funeral, as it was a bank holiday what was left was eyewateringly expensive . I didn't have many left but enough to get me over in business class in time without paying the absolute earth (even Ryanair was over £200 one way !)

I have never used avios for upgrading, not sure it works well. I use Avios for club or first reward flights, I don’t think anything else provides the same value. 100,000k flights is much of the way towards a club class reward flight to Orlando.
