Now shes worried

So were off in a couple of weeks now. I can't believe how quick the time has gone.

What with the major storm in the US recently now the GF is scared that we will ever crash when we land in Sanford due to a storm or get whisked up in a hurricane!

What can I do/say to calm her nerves!

Hi u might be better pointing out that these storms frequent the area at these times but they are not usually as disastorous as Katrina, but they are extremely rare

They are very safety consious in the US. They even stopped the ferry boat from port orleans to Downtown Disney because it was thundering.
On our arrival to Sanford we had to wait nearly 2 hours for our baggage to be unloaded from the plane because of the storm. ~They would not risk their employers getting hurt.

I was not worried about that this year after seeing how they reacted to hurricane Frances last year which we got caught up in.
They are tracking these storms for days - when we left(yesterday) they were tracking a depression which had just started to develop over in Africa they will watch it to see if it develops into anything.
If a hurricane is expected they will cancel the flights like they did last year ( we were stranded out there for 4 extra days)

Don't worry - the storms are rare !

Firstly, no planes would fly into Sanford, Orlando or ay other airport if there was the slightest risk of a storm affecting the safety of the aircraft.
Secondly, Hurricanes dont just spring up out of thin air, they develop slowly over days or weeks far out at sea, they are monitored and tracked very accurately as they approach land, so there is pretty much zero possiblity of your aircraft being 'surprised' by a hurricane, the pilot, the ground crew, and airtraffic control would know exactly where any bad weather is long before your plane ever got near it.

If you are scared of flying then a good remedy is to go and spend a few hours at your airport watching the planes take off and land. I think it really makes you realise just how many planes take off and land safely every hour of every day. If you had to fly once a week the fear would soon go away and it would become very routine, just like being in a car.

Stop worrying and enjoy your trip

Give her a copy of The Wizard of Oz.

Either she realises that even through bad events it al turns out to be a fairytale in the end, or thre's no place like hoime and she'd be better off staying there.
