Help BA or Virgin?!
Hiya,
I am hoping someone would be kind enough to help. I have always done DIY holidays to Florida, however we are going at a different time of year next year (end of April). Virgin direct are coming in at over 800 each (3 adults flights only) however after a quick search on skyscanner BYOJets are coming in at just over £400 each! However I haven't ever booked through a third party... Has anyone had any experiences with this company? Would we be able to book extra leg room directly with virgin after getting confirmation numbers etc.. Through their website? Also BA are coming in a little cheaper than 400 each, however I have never travelled with them and I am unsure of what they are like to fly with. Plus I can't seem to prebook seats when booking, unlike Virgin, how do I do this with BA? 2 of the adults are over 6 foot and need the extra leg room / exit seats for their long legs 😂 Thanks in advance for any advice 💕 |

Usually go BA as always cheaper than Virgin on a package holiday, paid for the exit seats this time £80 each one way, can get some seats for free 24hrs beforehand.

I would definitely rather book directly with BA than via a third party, I don't like dealing with intermediaries, they always seem to make everything difficult! If you are willing to pay, you can pre-book seats with BA.

Whoever is cheaper for the dates/duration/route we want. My husband is 6’3 and we had the extra legroom seats flying to JFK with virgin last year and he didn’t find them any better than normal economy flying to Miami with Ba. Always book direct with the airline whoever we fly with. Hate dealing with the middle man.

I have booked with third parties on many times and never had a problem. Fly sharp and Expedia have never given me a problem i think i have used others as well. Use a credit card for extra protection and you should be fine. I'm not paying more for the same flight just because the website has BA on it.
If you check the forum people have just as many problems dealing with airlines direct as the do with third parties. I have been able to book oxygen with BA after booking with Fly sharp no worries you can just log into your flight as usual. I also managed to book the seat next to me for my under two when flying with virgin and did this after booking the initial flight with Expedia. Although i had to do this over the phone not online. Pay on a credit card and you will be fine. Once you have booked wait 24 hours contact airline to make sure your booking is showing and bobs your uncle. When your e-ticket arrives make sure it has the 13 digit ticket number. This is the important number not the 6/7 digit reservation number. I have flown both airlines and would say they are much a like. I do currently prefer BA because they use the A380 on the Miami route and i just try to avoid the 747 as this has fast become very tired. Plus BA seems to be much cheaper and that's the main driver.

Brilliant thank you for your help!
Floridavisitor - unfortunately they do "need" the extra room as they are very uncomfortable in the standard seats - to the point that in March this year when flying back with Virgin the air hostess moved my brother in law to an exit row seat as she seen how cramped he was. 😄 The cheapest flights are through BA so looks like that's the way forward, thanks to those putting my mind at rest 😘💕 |

BA flights are good, they miss some of the "razzmatazz" of virgin, but they are on the whole a very good airline and mist of their Florida planes are very new

It all depends on how your 6ft 2” is made up tbh.
People have different lengths of legs or upper body torso to make up that 6ft 2” I an 6ft 1” but my legs are only 31 inches, otters of tge same size will have longer legs

I would always take BA over Virgin Atl on the Florida route in any case as I do not see either as in any way a 'premium' brand and Ba are generally cheaper. On other routes that Virgin Atl operate (SFO, LAX, Boston NY etc), then I would pay slightly more for a Boeing 787.
As for booking through 3rd parties, although an avowed DIYer, I try to avoid it unless the saving is considerable..Then I google for reviews in the first instance.
