Booking flights with just a deposit

For flights that are many months in advance, is there such as thing as booking with just a deposit or do they always need to be paid off in full on booking?

Thanks

Who are you booking with? If for example, BA, add a car and it is classed as package holiday and you can just pay deposit

No one yet so it would be possible to do what you have suggested.

If for example, we booked premium seats on TUI, I believe that would normally allow you to select seats right away. I assume features like that wouldn't be possible until the full balance is paid? But by paying a deposit would hold the flight's price and space?

I've done this with BA ...added the car. Balance is not due until 4 or 6 weeks beforehand and we can choose seats now

We booked deposit only through the Virgin Atlantic website for flight plus car. It was cheaper than booking though VH. For some reason the original price that pops up with a small car actually drops if you upgrade to a bigger one, or it did for our dates anyway?!
