I'm sure I read somewhere that in the states you need to keep the paperwork in the car as if stopped by the police they will need to see this. As others said pop in to your nearest avis centre ASAP.

I suppose if a person had the app with the rental details on then would that be enough? Just wondering...

it should be in theory as the AVIS app included my insurance certificate too.

However dunno if the law has caught up

Possibly one for RickT. I've seen mention of the USA Avis app in a few threads. Is this available on the app store (iphone) in the UK? Or will it be region specific and only downloadable in the US?

I’m here now, was due a class W but got an upgrade as none available. Rental doc shows something like $700 but that is I think what is covered by BA, no charge for the upgrade. I saw a screen shot which said nil charge when I asked about the charges(wish I’d taken a snap of that!).
Hold on my card is $80 which I think is similar to last BA Avis rental we did - it was never charged, just vanished after we returned full.
Hope that gives you an idea of what you should expect.

I saw an Avis counter so I now have a print out. Attached for viewing pleasure.

I am none the wiser!

Estimated total charges are $88.98.
There is a gas service option (that I am fine with) for $74.55 but that doesn't seem to be in the estimated total charges.

The Avis counter said it was insurance then said it wasn't. Then said it was the fuel plus tax. He essentially pushed me back to Tampa for any issues. He was helpful otherwise though.

So it's a mess. But I have the print out now and I won't let $88.98 ruin the holiday.

Thanks to all for replies. Lesson learned this end.

Right. That's better. It's the fuel plus tax plus airport user fee. Sounds ok to me. Big tank though!

According to the Chevvy website a Suburban has an approx 31 gallon tank, which makes their calculation spot on, 31 gal X $2.405. Wouldn't want to fill it up over here, 31US gallons is 117 litres or around £150, and we dont have that little clip that makes the pump handsfree
