Hire car collection at San Francisco Airport
We have hired from Avis and hopefully arrive on Saturday via Thomas Cook. Any advice or information would be very much appreciated to make the arrival process easier. We have hired a G class vehicle as anyone recently hired this class of vehicle and what was available.
Thanks Peter |

At SFO you go to the Rental Car Center to collect your car, using the AirTrain. Take the blue line from the terminal, after clearing immigration and customs. More details here
avis/en/locations/us...-francisco/sfo Can’t help you about the cars, have only rented from Alamo at SFO. |

We have recently returned from California having rented our car with Avis. As Peko says once you have your bags head over to the rental garage via the AirTrain, it’s really simple to follow.
Have you signed up to be a Preferred member? It’s free and lets you go straight to the garage instead of the desk in the main building where quite often there’s a queue. If it’s your first rental with them you’ll still need to go to the desk in the garage and get your allocated car. If you don’t like the look of it, we have found Avis will always swap it out for you depending on availability and more often than not give a free upgrade. This year we booked a Group S (Ford Explorer or similar) and received a VW Atlas (Touareg). Was a lovely car and a dream to drive for 3 weeks! My SIL had booked a Group D (VW Jetta) and received a Nissan Rogue (I think the same as a Qashkai) We’ve never had a problem with Avis and always found their cars to be on the new side and with a good selection. |
