Can some one ‘sell’ the Disney cruise to me?

We have done 9 cruises on different cruise lines plus 3 on Disney.
Disney is by far the best of any of them in my opinion..they do come out dearer and you think I could get a cheaper cruise etc..but it is really special and worth the extra.
I don't know how long we can keep going on the Magic because of the prices...but it will be a sad day when it ends for us.

If you book early enough then some of the rooms on the dream and fantasy are huge. We had one on the dream that was almost like a one bedroom suite, and it was just a normal room.

You can bring your own alcohol on at each port. 2 bottles of wine per adult or 6 beers per adult, so you can get plenty alcohol without paying extra. Some other cruise lines dont even include soft drinks by the way.

Which is fine ... if you only drink wine or beer in strict moderation.
Just like in the parks you are paying Disney prices for everything. That includes alcohol.
Unless you must have character meets and Disney shows on a cruise as well as when staying in resorts, it's well worth looking at the alternatives ... and on less biased opinions on cruise forums rather than Disney forums which will inevitably be biased (it's rather like threads where people who have never stayed off site insist on site is the only option ... when it's something they haven't personally tried)

Just as an aside, I hate formality on holiday, have no interest. On the RCI one I was just on, people (men) were in shorts in the main dining room. This was one out of Miami, not sure if Euro ones would be the same. Even 'formal night' was now called 'dress to impress' with most people seemingly not bothering.

I think Bats sums it up brilliantly.

As to kids club, good point. Bats asks how old OPs kids are if they have any. I suspect for little kids DCL kids club is probably best. For teenagers, probably not.

As above, the RCI new island is phenomenal and consideration of that should certainly come into play if you are doing an island cruise. I am a big Disney fan, but I've never seen them do anything better than the new RCI Island which has had 250m spent on its development.

Kids will be 7&11 by the time we go.
I’m also not a fan of formality. Holidays are for shorts and T-shirt’s

It's a good way to put it ,
Although unlike the Disney resorts where your money is paying for location you are paying for different things.

Cruise ships all tend to have excellent dining, the extra you pay isn't for this. Disney don't have the best dining ,but it's good.
They all have great kid's clubs ... Disney comes with characters of course.
Entertainment, if the only West End show you'd consider is a Disney show , then yes you'll prefer the DCL entertainment, if your tastes are broader then all the ships have decent entertainment.
Ports of call , if it's a first cruise it doesn't matter as all ports will be new to you but a common complaint is Disney don't offer the same range of destinations as other cruise companies.
If you like a drink, most cruise companies offer better value drink packages than alcohol on DCL, worth costing out.

Is a Disney cruise worth the extra compared to similar cabins with NCL, RCL , Celebrity ?
It's very subjective , for me, no for you, maybe.



As kids we always cruised (Mum hated flying) kids are really well catered for and you'll barely see them as they'll be doing loads of stuff (you may get those leisurely cocktails after all so best budget for them whichever you choose ! ).

I've never done a cruise and regretted the absence of Meeces !

if you just want to experience a traditional cruise and go to ports then I'm sure you can find a cruise line and port itinerary which will suit you

if you want a DISNEY experience, characters on the ship, Disney themed restaurants, Disney themed ship activities, Disney themed stateroom, etc etc, then you will find a way to pay for it, and will find a route and ports that interests you and you will enjoy the unique things like rotational dining, no casino, no alcohol package etc etc.

I’d love to do a Disney cruise but they are so expensive. I can’t find a good deal.

We are going to the Canary Islands in April school holidays 2 weeks for less than £3k.
I think Disney came in as that for 4 nights.

Incorrect I'm afraid regarding prices of alcohol. Cocktails on DCL are actually some of the cheapest on any cruise line. Even their spirits are cheaper than I pay in some pubs. They really are not expensive at all and if you like cocktails, you can do the cocktail of the day for less than £5.

I don't think this thread, or others has been biased at all - there has been recommendations for other cruise lines in an effort to help the OP. We try very hard not to be biased on here - please read my earlier post and let me know where you see any bias as I do try to be open and honest.
The question posed by the OP was 'sell DCL to me', so in fairness everyone should have been selling DCL to him, but we didn't.

I think your post is pretty unfair actually.

And we go back to the 'worth'. What's worth it to you is different to the next person.
You'll have a great time in the Canaries, but it will be different and won't be a Disney Cruise. Not better or worse, just different.

DCL doesn't hide it's pricing and it doesn't need to - it sails at near capacity on every cruise, they are doing something right.

Every cruise company has its fans and you are clearly a die hard DCL fan, and that's great BUT that doesn't mean pointing out the pros and cons is "unfair" unless you believe everyone should only prefer what you do. It's a little like the on site/off site debate, for some staying off site would be unthinkable for others a split stay or a villa is vastly preferable.
